Moon Phases in Magick
It is apparent to anyone who is even slightly sensitive or observant that the different phases of the moon have a subtle effect on people. Whether this is due to some sort of astral or etheric influence, gravitational impact, nocturnal light levels or something else is less important than the fact that it does have an impact. Those who engage in esoteric practices have been taking advantage of the fluctuating influence of the moon to plan the types of workings that are most suitable for the moon phase at the time of working. The following video gives a brief introduction to the concept:
New Moon
The moon is not visible. This is a great time to begin new projects, to delve into one's own Shadow, to perform introspective workings or to cast malevolent magick.
Waxing First Quarter
This is the phase for developing strategy and beginning projects.
Waxing Second Quarter
Beyond planning and into the early stages of action, including public launch of projects.
Full Moon
Pretty much any working will get a boost of lunar energy when performed on or within a day of the Full Moon. The energy of the full moon can sometimes be almost manic.
Waning Third Quarter
Time to start bringing projects towards their conclusion.
Waning Fourth Quarter
Harvest mode. Time to bring projects to their conclusion. One of the better times to work with Death in any fashion. Destruction magick, including work designed to destroy illusion or barriers to the accomplishment of a goal.
