Made in Steemit - crowdsourcing project proposal: Steemit character cards

in #madeinsteemit8 years ago

In my very short time here on Steemit I have had the pleasure of cross paths with many talented and inspired individuals here. Apart from posting content and participating in many different activities I also find this community a great source of creativity and entrepreneurship.

I want to encourage collaboration and also making Steemit exist not just in the digital world but continue to develop its physical presence, and so I am also putting my hand up to try and fund/create projects that will encourage people to come together and create something.

Seeing how the Steem silver coins concept (@phelimint) was so successful:

I realized that while we can't possibly meet with Steemians from all around the world face-to-face (unless you happen to be able to go along to SteemFest), another way for us to connect with each other physically is to have something that exists in the physical world. And judging by how much people were wanting to get their hands on those silver coins, I thought perhaps we can create something that is more accessible to the common people (i.e. cheaper and in greater quantity).

Background:
I have met many many (many and many) talented artists here on Steemit, and saw a number of interesting projects from @kus-knee, @steemitadventure, @fishmon, @marduk-game that are all card based.

As per usual, I keep thinking about how I can leverage the people I know, the skills that they have and the resources that I have to create something that will benefit not only the people who spend time creating such great work, but also let other people on Steemit contribute to something bigger than just their immediate circles.

Proposal:
Taking a Lean and Agile approach to project management, I want to propose a MVP (minimum viable product) concept for this project, and it will basically involve three parts.

  • fellow Steemians proposing and voting on the project to be launched
  • selected Steemians working on the product
  • selected Steemians (mostly me and whoever else is interested) to fund the people working on the product

I will contribute the majority of the cost for printing and producing the cards (since I happen to know people who work in the industry that will be able to produce high quality products at a reasonable cost). But as you know, the cost per unit reduces with a higher volume, and as long as the people working on the project gets paid I don't mind paying for the cost of physically producing the product.

I for one would like to by playing with a set of Steemit character cards, whether it is for a poker game, card game, board game or just as a novel collectible item. I think cards are accessible to the common hard working people here on Steemit, so if you would like to get involved let me know or help spread the word!

This is really just a proof-of-concept for future platforms like steemgig.org and other applications that will leverage the Steem blockchain and the decentralized workplace/economy that the digital currency will support. But why wait for that to happen when we have all the talent and resources to do it NOW :)

Interesting suggestion @plushzilla. I'm not sure how I can contribute in any way, but I hope you can get something tangible off the ground.

Hi @edward.maesen, never underestimate the power of even just a supporting message in a comment :) I started with nothing here before and achieved more than I expected already!

Yes that's something I need to practice/learn better. I'm by nature a quiet person and that translates to my online behavior. I had to really sit and think what to say in my comment above, because I didn't want to leave it at just a vote.

I think the way steemit rewards both authors and curators helps to address that balance. Many of us here don't want to wave a flag and talk about ourselves, but there are people here willing to promote other people and do this by curation and contests. But I think collaboration is another way of doing this as well, so I hope this will create more opportunities for those that don't want to spend time 'marketing' themselves to still make use of their own skills :)

Yes you're right!
