Probably, you often saw on the trunks of fruit trees such resinous secretions. They are called in different ways. Some say it's resin, others call it glue. This substance received its name from the Greek κομμίδιον, κόμμι.

As a child, we fought for pieces of this resin. in those days chewing gum was not easy to buy. Glue, not sweet to taste, has a light fruity aroma. Very viscous and sticky substance.

Most often I see such discharge on the trunks of sweet cherries. The tree that is represented in the photo is an old cherries. There are many factors that contribute to the release of this resin.

This is sunburn and excessive moisture and mechanical damage to the bark of the tree.

Sweet cherry does not tolerate the high acidity of the soil. Usually, in such cases, lime is added to the soil next to the tree, but, here, it does not help.

A few meters from this tree begins the forest. This means that the acidity of the soil is high enough. This is facilitated by fallen leaves, which rot.

The forest is on a hill. From the hill, during the rain, streams of water flow down, which flood this tree.

This cherries grows near the alley, along which thousands of people and children pass. At a time when the cherries are ripe, there must be someone who will try their luck and try to scramble up the tree trunk.

All this causes a significant damage to this tree. A tree, just a loser from birth. He was put in a place where all the misfortunes were collected in one place.
