Learn To Draw With Friends Challenge - STAR WARS - Master Yoda Portrait Drawing

in #ltdwf7 years ago

This weeks theme: STAR WARS!
(I've been looking forward to finally drawing Master Yoda) :D

This is the advanced drawing challenge photo that was chosen by the host @tonyr .

For this drawing i used a regular #2 pencil (HB), eraser, and a rolled up piece of paper i use to smudge any hard lines out.

So first I draw the outline carefully while making sure everything is measured just right. If not the drawing will end up looking deformed or just not what I would want it to look like.
Eye placement and nose placement are very important to position perfectly as well.

Now I'm done with all my basic outlines. So next I'm going to start getting some shading in the ears, robe, and background.

Now I take the smudger and blend some of the clothes and background.

I add more darker details to the face and draw in the eyes.

Blend the face shading with the smudger.

I make it more dark on the right side of the background to make it look more 3 dimensional in my opinion

Blend everything to liking and correct contrasts. Then with a sharpened pencil start doing the darker details like the cracks on the skin and eye lids.

Last I took the eraser and pretty much highlighted everywhere that needed to be white including the hair. After I drew the hair out with the eraser, I took the pencil and detailed up the hair a little.

AND There you have it. Master Yoda.
On and off it took me about 4 hours to draw. Not bad considering i stopped drawing for a few months before i started using steemit. This community has actually motivated me to do so much more with my art and share it with the world. I look forward to drawing everyday again and sharing it with all you great people.

So I hope you enjoyed my post! Leave me a comment and let me know what you all think. I will always try to reply to all of you.

Great job @leminhead. I think if you change tha camera settings or the lighting of the room, your pics will come out even better.

Crappy phone camera and only a #2 pencil lol this is as good as it'll get for now. XD

Wonderful job, particularly in capturing the expression, which can be hard to convey properly. I really like your technique in drawing the hair out with the eraser first. I haven't ever really used a smudge before I will try out your rolled up paper smudge technique next time I bust out my drawing pencils. Do you always just draw with the one (HB) pencil? I like to use the full range of pencils myself to increase the dynamic range.

Great touch with the GIF at the end showing all the stages animated. I love process pieces, always cool to get a glimpse of another artist's way of working, and seeing unfinished pieces progress all the way up to finished is really cool.

I'm glad you found me and thanks for using my super duper upvote service! Followed :)

the force is strong with this one.... outstanding work
