Cloud appreciators come to steemit ⛅️ photo contest!
I have long been a cloud lover and it was with great pleasure that I resteemed @tobetada's first LoveTheClouds contest under which I will be leaving a link to this post.
You can see the contest here and if you have any great cloud shots you want to share I suggest you whip up a post and leave the link for @tobetada to check.
I am blown away by how many people have already left their cloud shots there. And I am reminded about my life before Steemit when (like @tobetada) I was a member of various cloud appreciation societies on Facebook, none as official looking as his though ;)
What is my entry?
Flicking through my photos I realise I have so many I feel proud of. As a travelling time-lapse film maker my library is pretty extensive now and never stops growing.
You can see some of my time-lapse work here in this showreel from 2016
There is one shot in particular which comes to mind for this contest because it was chosen as the FB banner for one of the cloud appreciation groups I used to be a part of.
Without further ado I give you Flores Island in Indonesia, shot in 2017 from a boat we had been living on for five days. We were returning to shore at the end of our trip and it was the PERFECT moment to end our adventure on the ocean.
The image can be viewed full screen by clicking on it.
I always shoot HDR these days (high dynamic range) which means I shoot 3 shots with 3 different exposures which are merged together with HDR software producing a final image with much richer colours and a slightly surreal feel.
It is very difficult to shoot the HDR technique handheld from a moving boat and it took around 20 attempts before I was able to catch this one at the perfect moment between swells.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's lovely cloud shots!

wow, thank you so much @samstonehill! Quite frankly, I am blown away by the great response and appreciation that so many people have for clouds :)
And your picture... well, it's breathtaking! Happy to have you on board :)
Pleasure to meet you and take part :)
I am sure it will only get bigger from here and I wish you all the best.
Wow, the richness of colour in the sun is just beautiful - and the reflection on the water.
HDR - now I get it! Thanks!
It's a confusing one at first but once you have figured out how it works and shot this way for a while, a normal photo will never look enough again!
I am an HDR addict, with a passion for clouds ;)
I will give it a try - thanks for your response.
(Sorry, forgot to mention the clouds that were kinda important in the scheme of this post - doh!)
freat shoot
Thanks!
Outstanding post and narrative. Thank you for sharing!
Appreciate the comment ;)
Damnnnn son
Good old Heston sorted that view out for us. He took us on a boat trip when we first arrived in Bali. Not a bad trip that one ;)
