Water

A friend of mine traveled from Florida to visit India on an extended stay to practice yoga. He wanted to do something nice, so on Christmas day he got a big red jacket and road into a very poor slum area of town.

On a motorcycle with a huge bag of toys he purchased he road up to a group of kids and began to pass them out. The children smiled and were very thankful many filled with joy, but a few of the children came up and asked simply for water.

That't right while kids in America and around the world were asking for dolls, video games, action figures, and board games, these kids simply wanted clean water to drink.

Did you know? Worldwide, 1 in 9 people lack access to safe drinking water.

But living in America many take something as simple as water for granted.

The large majority just simply turn on a faucet or press a cup to the door on the refrigerator.

Even worse, while sodas and beers sell for several dollars at most restaurants throughout America, a glass of water is usually free and includes unlimited refills. They even offer to add lemon slices for no additional charge.

Meanwhile women and girls alone worldwide spend 266 million hours every day finding a place to get water. Some will spend up to 6 hours every day collecting water.

This time spent gathering water or seeking safe sanitation accounts for billions of dollars in lost economic opportunities.

Children are often made responsible for collecting water to help their families. But this takes time away from school and play which greatly impact how the brain develops.

So the next time you fill a glass at the sink or fridge or go to a restaurant and ask for a free glass of water when you drink it realize how lucky you truly are. Feel the Love
