Welcome to our New Apartment; We're finally HOME :)

in #love6 years ago (edited)

Welcome to our new home everyone! Brian and I both feel like we hit the jackpot with this one :)

Here's the view from the street. The owner of this place is an artist, among so many other things, so all of the tile and wrought iron work is his alone :)

Jorge (George) our landlord, lives on the second floor and is simply amazing. That's our place at the top with the palapa covering (thatched roof). Very authentic Mexico :) He actually let us move in without a contract while he was away in Mexico City. It's so very different from our old place, but that is for another post! This one is going to be 100% positive :)

For years now, while on holidays, Brian and I have walked by this mosaic tile dolphin mural, and have been in awe of its' beauty; it's so serendipitous that this is now where we call "home" !

There's very little plain cement anywhere. Everything is a mosaic; broken tile designs 'pushed' into the wet cement ... it really is beautiful! I also found out that #5 (Roman numeral V) is George's lucky number, so it's placed just about everywhere. Do you see it?

Not long ago I wrote a post about a cenote Brian and I went to, and we both loved it so much. Well, just inside the front gate is this spectacular pool, and guess what?? Its water source is a cenote, an underground fresh water spring!!! In fact, all of the water pumped into the property is from the cenote. How cool is that??!

At the top of the stairs is the entrance to our private patio and studio apartment. This patio is about 50 feet x 35 feet OR 15 meters x 10 meters!! It's huge! Here it is upon arrival,

and after we made it a bit more comfortable. Notice there's two hammocks as well :)

To the right is a laundry room and clothesline that I'm so happy to have! We both love the smell of clothes and especially sheets dried outside!

This is my new steemit workplace ... this is the reason for my absence haha It's so very difficult to stay focused out here!

Here's a closeup of our jellyfish wind-chime, made of a coconut exterior and shells, but look in the distance! We have a view of the ocean and of the Island of Cozumel. I told you!! Jackpot :) And all of this costs less than our last apartment!!

Our first night here, before the comfy chairs, but regardless, it was so relaxing sitting out there!

This is the view we wake up to. Brian and I both say that we have this feeling of being perpetually on holidays; we are both soooo relaxed and very very happy. In fact, the kids used to joke that they wanted to see Mexico Brian when we would return from holidays and went back to work in Vancouver. Now my love says, "Mexico Brian is back and he's here to stay !! "

Even Buddy doesn't know where to go first! He sleeps like a baby at night too ... no more bugging us; he's literally wiped out after his days of exploring :)

I took this picture of him this morning, when I stepped outside and left him inside haha He's giving me that cat-look of shock and disgust that I'd even consider going outside without him haha

Oh!! I almost forgot. We have dogs!!! Ramona is the Boxer and Bandaleros is the ... rescue street dog haha We even have a landlord who loves his dogs and takes very very good care of them ... a bit of a rarity here :) I fed them bits of steak the first night we were here, so guess who's their best buddy? haha

After our scooter accident where we got cut off by a drunk taxi driver the other day, I feel like Ramona right now, so I am going to read an actual book with Brian in my comfy orange chair. Oh yeah, the taxi driver had his wife and baby (on her lap!) in the front seat! Crazy! If you didn't read the post, rest assured, we are fine, just a little bruised and sore. Thanks to so many of you for the thoughts and well wishes too!!

Brian and I feel unbelievably fortunate not only to have not been seriously hurt the other day, but to have finally found a place that feels like home, and to have a landlord that seems to be worth his weight in gold. After owning our own places for years, it's weird to be renting again, but George really does live by the adage, mi casa es tu casa, or my house is your house. I'm especially ecstatic that Brian is happy and relaxed here!

Hasta luego folks, that empty chair is calling my name :)

Wow! Wow! Wow! That is an awesome home! The dolphin mural is really beautiful! And you have an amazing view!

Thank you so much @elizacheng :) We are both still in the "Wow! Wow! Wow!" stage ourselves haha

I appreciate you stopping by!

Dang! What a nice looking place. :) Congrats!

Thank you so much @apolymask!! We really did luck out on this one :) And hey, if you ever make your way here for a holiday, there's even a studio for rent for vacationers on the main floor ;)

Wow! That place would inspire Hemingway. I'm so happy for both of you.

Namaste, JaiChai

Right?!! You have a way of cutting to the chase perfectly @jaichai :) I've been thinking of buying some watercolors and painting, which I haven't done for about 15+ years!

Thank you so much!

Congrats on your wonderful residence score! Enjoy your hamaca time! 😎

Thank you @novacadian!! Haha I've got Adam Sandler going through my head now :)

That is a very photogenic place and it looks like luxury digs, too! Got to get maximum enjoyment out of the giant patio.

Glad y'all didn't get too banged up in the smashup. That was a very close call!

Thank you @willymac! The apartment itself is pretty small, but the outside space really makes up for it :)

The smashup was terrifying for me; it's something I never want to repeat!! I actually decided to respond to these happier comments first, before heading over to "that" post!

Thank you!

You have a new home that looks so restful to your body and soul! Surrounded by open space, color and serenity, you are going to be happy there. Finding the new place was Karma!

You're so right @willymac! Good things do eventually come to those who wait :) This afternoon we were sitting outside, reading (actual books ;), having a drink, and Brian said, "I could live here til the day I die". So, there it is :)

Hope all is well with you!

Tell Brian that being in the place where you are content is the ultimate reward for a having a good life and it is the place where time can stand still for an eternity today.

I love my Kindle but nothing will ever replace the feel of holding a real book while I disappear into its world. Kindle books just slide by; you can go into a real book.

And that makes all well with me. And you too, I suspect.

Brian said he feels the same way and completely agrees!

We both have a Kobo and love it too; the ability to bring our library with us from Canada, slipped in a backpack is wonderful, but feeling the pages of an actual book ... well, you said it best,

you can go into a real book.

And you suspect correctly :)

Thanks, Lynn. That gives me warm fuzzies for you and Brian.

Have an afternoon of tropical paradise!

Thanks for the update! I started reading it and then got distracted by a squirrel or some nonsense. Hence the late comment.

Your new place looks amazing!!! You have a view of the ocean, and you live in the tree tops. That's so cool. I like that you're higher up, so it really is like you're in a tree fort. How cool that you have a pool as well! And for less money, that's great!

I'm glad to see you're decking it out with your own stuff to make it home. It looks like a very comfy space. I hope you're both able to rest and recover there.

Thank you so much!! We were commenting today how relaxed we both are here, while reading an actual book "up in the tree tops". Sometimes the stars really do align and things work out perfectly :)

I'm glad you're both liking it. You've been through so much, you deserve a break and a place to relax.

Thank you! You know something? I haven't been doing as much 'steemit' the last few days, and I think you just explained why to me . I just feel like doing whatever I want, and yes, I think Brian and I both deserve that.

This Catholic guilt I was raised with occasionally rears its' ugly head haha Thanks for the perspective :)

I hope you and yours are having a great weekend! I'm assuming it's starting to feel like Fall there?

I think you should do whatever you want! Embrace it. If you want to get on Steemit and curate or run a contest or whatever, go for it. If you don't want to, then don't. If you want to spend all your time salsa dancing on the rooftop whatever-you-call-it, then do that! (It's more likely to be swimming, I know.)

Yeah, the guilt can get you. I'm glad I accidentally provided perspective.

Yes, it's starting to feel like fall. I'd like to live in a place where it's sunny and 75 every day. That seems really nice. For now though, as long as I live in most of the continental US, there are going to be more seasons than that, and that includes winter. :( Oh, well. Then comes spring!

What?! How did you find a place like that? It seems like the perfect home:))

Right place at the right time I think! Brian happened to be walking to the store not long ago, and the owner here was backing out of the driveway, so good ol' Brian stopped him and asked if he rented any of it out haha He had been doing B&B's but just stopped because there was so much nonsense involved, so he just said 'sure'! I still can't believe it :) Thank you @tripswithtam :)

I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes, but I just went to your blog and you haven't been posting lately. Hope everything is ok! <3

Looks amazing. Dream place. Loved the cat and dogs :)
Enjoy.

Thank you so much @hlezama! We're so happy here, but I think it will be a while until the cat and dogs are friends ... they "accidentally" met the other day, and none of them were too happy about it all haha

Hahaha. I can imagine. Been there. Unless those suckers are introduced to each other early in their lives, they can be very annoying in their "negotiating" spaces.

hahaha "negotiating" spaces ... that's a great way to put it. My cat was laying on a stair, eyeballing the dogs while they were going insane because they had no way to reach him... and my cat knew it!! With that "cat" look they give, so superior! I was killing myself laughing!

Hahaha. That's hilarious. They do that. I think it's great that we have these creatures around us. They give a lot without even knowing.

Bienvenidos a casa! Looks awesome, huge congrats!!!

Thank you so much @eoj!! Nice Español too :)
