What is Love? ... Mystic Love & Oneness ... Dimensions of Love #4
Mystic Love is the love that says "no matter our superficial differences, we are in essence the same."
To experience mystic love is to experience oneness- with a plant, a person, an animal, a river, a mountain, a piece of garbage, the cosmos. Mystic love transcends notions of sexual, romantic, and platonic love, extending to anything and everything, including what the rational mind might consider to be the most unlikely of beloveds.
In contrast to the love of difference, which delights in the use of language to describe and appreciate differences, in trying to say "this is where I begin and end; this is where you begin and end," mystic love is beyond words. Mystic love is unbounded and undifferentiating; it needs nothing, least of all to explain itself. For mystic love, words only get in the way.
I have experienced mystic love on many occasions. More than once, it has taken me to the edge of death. If I am truly not different than another, then there is nothing to fear in death. For mystic love, the death of one is simply a change, the law of the land, no better nor worse than what was before.

^I think this kind of highly rational love, and it's emphasis on the self, is more closely related to "love of difference," and "measuring love," which I linked to above.
Love is everything, only today love people most often use as a synonym for sex. Thank you for this wonderful post.
"love is everything"... spoken like a true mystic. Yes, sadly people get confused about the difference between sex and love, maybe in part because good sex can be a mystical experience of oneness.
