Love & Marriage 29 - The elements of Romance

in #love7 years ago (edited)

I started on a series about romance in your marriage.

To recap: Romance is about giving the most precious gift you can give to each other and that is TIME. Romance is about quality time spent together. Romance is about just to enjoy each other and making happy memories of special times of togetherness.

There are 3 contributing elements to romance: environment, emotion and enjoyment.

  • Environment: To choose a romantic environment is maybe the easiest element and you can control it. This should include music, lighting, fragrance, visual beauty, good weather etc. The environment without one of the other 2 elements won't produce romance.

  • Emotion: emotions of love, passion, a longing to be with each other needs to be present for romance to happen.

  • Enjoyment: this is the most important element of romance. The element of enjoyment goes beyond loving each other, it includes liking each other. A wife asked her husband do you like me? He was surprised and said, "of course, I love you." She said but I ask "do you like me?" What she really wanted to know was do you like being in my company? Do you have fun when we are together? There are lots of couples that struggle to be romantic as they don't enjoy each other.
When you stop liking your mate, passion seems do get less and less until you are just roommates with the titles Mr. and Mrs.

You can also surprise your spouse by planning a romantic outing without him/she knowing it. This will most certainly add to the enjoyment of the event. Just make sure that your spouse definitely doesn't have other plans as this can result in disappointment, rather than romance. Even if it is only a home cooked meal by candlelight and all of the other elements discussed.

To have romance should not automatically means sex, although if you ask a lot of men their idea of romance will include sex. But if you made an effort to set up a romantic evening or day, it will be the excellent prelude to wonderful love-making.
