I would really enjoy getting shots of the stars..
So you don't want the trails.
The trails can be nice if that is what you are going for. Here is one I made earlier.
But if you want pin sharp images you need to reduce the exposure time and get the aperture right.
It's great fun and very satisfying when you see something you have never seen before.

Orion also contains Betelgeuse, a very impressive star. It’s around 1000 Times bigger than our sun.
The distances to these places is truly 'astronomical' and the size of these objects is mind boggling!
And these are just the local objects that we can see with the naked eye. It is absolutely wonderful that we have the opportunity to witness such incredible things. We just have to look up. :-)
I've been practicing with the RAW data today and zoomed in on Orions Belt. This shows two things.
A lot more stars in the region and more importantly the need to get the exposure time right and a steady tripod. The star-trails are visible even at 12 seconds. More practice for me :-)
I've cropped Betelgeuse out of this image below. Dooh! lol

The stars are almost round, that's good :-)
For me, it looks more that the focus is not 100% accurate or the tripod was shaking a little bit. Do you use the mirror lock-up?
Maybe it also an objective thing? Then it should help to choose the aperture higher. Something like around f2.0 or f2.8.
The tripod was mounted on my wooden patio which is not the most stable place. I'll move it onto the lawn.
I'll try your suggestions on the mirror lock-up and apeture settings.
I'm getting better results the more that I practice and I'm getting to grips with the many options on my camera :-)

The great thing about astrophotography is that you have a very long time to practice. The objects hide when they disappear for months, but next year they are back again, even in the exact same place. :-)
When you've finished trying to dim the aperture, you can try stacking some pictures. ;-)

Horay! I'm so glad you liked this post @melinda010100 astrophotography isn't everyone's cup of tea but I am finding it totally fascinating what you can get with just a camera.
My sons and me have been meaning to get a telescope for a couple of years. I may get one after I have exhausted what I can do with my existing equipment.
