Batman Ave

A favourite photo of mine taken overlooking Batman Avenue in Melbourne. Before I get into the image itself I'll mention that this is nothing to do with a fictional vigilante billionaire that likes dressing up as a bat. But as one of the founders of Melbourne, John Batman. A man of questionable dealings with the Aboriginal land custodians, but also a man that our city could have been named after (Batmania).
Now that the history lesson is out of the way, this is one of my favourite photos because it is exactly what I set out to get, and it took planning and careful post processing to achieve. Something that is not always possible for a landscape photographer when you have to deal with whatever conditions you have at the time. I won't include the camera settings because this image is a blend of about 15 exposures over a period of 2 hours. Over that time I didn't move the camera's position. I took images before sunset, at sunset, after sunset and at night to capture the different elements needed. Such as the light on the trees before sunset, the colour in the clouds at sunset, and the lights in the buildings and multiple car trail exposures at night.

The light in this image is so surreal. I love it

This is an incredible work of art @kieranstone. Very impressive photography techniques.

The details are exquisite. :)

Thanks heaps!

Nice shot @keiranstone. I would love to get to Melbourne to shoot it. So much culture there

It's a beautiful city to photograph. With the best coffee in the world too ;)

I was down there many years ago, but wasnt as into photography as i am these days. It was more a shopping trip for the wife hahahaha

the picture is realy nice 👍

Wow, that's truely a masterpiece! Thanks for the description, it's amazing, how much efforts you put into it, to achieve that it looks so brilliant. May I ask which program you used for putting the different exposures together to one photo?

Thanks! I use Photoshop to blend the exposures together :)

Do they also have The Joker street? :D nice shot mate :)

I was going to be clever and say yes and link to Google maps of where it is but...turns out there is no Joker Street in Melbourne!

Good inspiration

Thanks heaps!

Interesting work!
Very crisp image and full colours. Combining multiple long exposures from different times of day could be something to try myself as well.

Congrats for the capture and thanks for the idea!

regards,
Esa

It's a lot of fun and very satisfying when it all comes together :)

It is, isn’t it!
