St. Petersburg at night
Hi, dear Steemians!
Saint Petersburg is called the cultural capital of Russia. I totally agree with this definition. St. Petersburg is amazing in any season and time of a day. Today I'm going to show you St. Petersburg in the dark with New Year decorations.
In spite of cold weather, there were crowds of people in the street. It was quite difficult to book a good room in November and December. All good hotels had been already full. If you want to see St. Petersburg during New Year holidays, I recommend you to book a room in October or even earlier.
It's Kazan Cathedral. The full name is the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. The cathedral was built in 1811. It's really enormous and great. It's length is about 82 metres. The fate of the Cathedral is closely connected with the Patriotic War (1812). It also became a store for relics of the war. By the way, Kutuzov was buried here. And now there is a monument to him in front of the cathedral.
Also, St. Petersburg is famous for its fountains. There're more than 200 fountains in the city.
It's the ice fountain in front of the Admiralty. The construction of the building Admiralty started in 1704. It was only one year later after foundation St. Petersburg. First, it was a shipyard. The drawings of the building were made by Peter the Great himself.
The city shines with different colourful lights and it's very impressive. The atmosphere of the holiday is everywhere.
I hope you've enjoyed our walking!
