Are religious people brainwashed? Are students brainwashed? Are voters brainwashed? Lots of people walk in life following the status quo. There are laid down unwritten rules that govern society and most of us follow them more often unconsciously.

Christians are told to believe in God. Moslems are told to believe in Allah. Few of them read their Bibles and Qurans and even when they do, they read it like story books. Religious leaders explain the books to them and give them doctrines which they follow pretty well. They would tell you some things are not to be understood but followed. They would even go to the extent to fight for their faith but when you question them about what they believe in, you realize they have no ideas.

Students have been made to believe that, to succeed in life, go to school, get a certificate, get a job, live happily ever after. Once someone has been to school and gotten a certificate, he doesn't see why he can't get a job. He doesn't understand understand that life doesn't have a formulae, and anything is bound to happen at anytime.

I don't know about what happens where you are but here in Ghana, there are lots of people who would die for their political parties. Once panelists on a radio station were making threatening comments against judges and the police went to the radio station to halt the program. The station managers announced that the police had come there and within minutes, lots of people had gathered at the radio station to stop the police a because the radio station propagated the message of the opposition parties. It took intervention of the military to calm situations. Voters who were not making any significant gains from the political parties they belong to were ready to fight and lay down their lives for their political parties.

We are all zombies in one thing or another, but we need to learn when to be logical when the time comes. A kid was sent with 10$ to buy groceries worth 9$ and keep the 1$ change in a shop near by. The kid came back with an Ice cream and 9$. The kid was asked where the groceries were, or at least where the 10$. The shop was closed so the kid took the change that was promised and brought back the money for the groceries. Is this a logical thing to do or you've been told to keep 1$ of the amount so you keep it come what may?
