The energy label

In the Netherlands we have the energy label. The energy label indicates with class A (green, very economical) to G (red, very inefficient) how energy-efficient a house or appliance is compared to similar houses and appliances.

With an energy label, buyers and tenants can see at a glance whether a house is economical or inefficient. This is convenient, because choosing a low-cost home means lower energy bills, more living comfort and less CO2 emissions, so better for the environment! The energy label for houses indicates with class A (green, very economical) to G (red, very inefficient) how energy-efficient a house is compared to similar houses. An energy-efficient house has good insulation, double glazing, energy-efficient heating and solar panels. The energy label is a document in which these characteristics are described.

Energy label for appliances.

The energy label is on many devices. That shows at a glance whether the device is economical with energy.
A device that uses energy efficiently is often slightly more expensive than its inefficient brothers with the same capacity, but in use economical appliances are cheaper because they use (much) less power. This can make a big difference on the electricity bill every year.

Energy label cars

With the energy label for cars you can see at a glance how economical a new car is, compared to other cars of similar size.

A car with energy label A consumes at least twenty percent less fuel than a car of size class with a label C / D. A car with energy label B is slightly less economical but still consumes ten to twenty percent less fuel.

If you decide to buy a new car, you often already know which size class you are looking for. For example, if you go for a small middle class, you can see on the energy label which car is the most economical within that size class.
