Daily Digest #51 - Food Waste, Coffee Pods & Pushing the Problem to Other Countries

If you don't already know, I live in SE Asia. This has enabled me to travel the region extensively. While travelling here I have always moaned and grumbled at the pollution. This is pollution that can be seen, like plastic and pollution in the air. I've been in two minds, as the air pollution is often from Western industries, industries that have located their polluting factories into SE Asia. These same corporations and governments then wag their finger and judge with a condescending look. This has been picked up upon by one of todays authors, so I'll stop rabbiting on and let you read their post...

Before you read on, remember we have an upvote bot @greengrowth and a Discord channel https://discord.gg/6DhnVTQ. Using these helps the quality sustainability content get an increased profile on Steemit.

Recycling Coffee Pods, @foodart

Here they are again, those darn single use coffee pods. In an ideal world we would be banning these disgusting environmental atrocities. But here we are. This author at least highlights legislation that may be coming into effect in the EU and some clever researchers trying to do their bit. Fascinating and worth a read for sure.

I really have never understood why people use those coffee pods! Is it so hard to boil some water and use a French press? Because you can make one cup at a time that way, too (that's what I have)! NTM, coffee is MUCH more expensive in the pods (just by seeing them in the store). My previous French press was actually a mug you drank straight out of (but it was plastic, and the double wall cracked so it was always backed up in there. My new one is stainless steel). There was already a convenient, single-serve option, people... 😩
