I thought this article was excellent. A well-informed text, with very well-structured and well-exposed fundamental references. It undoubtedly reflects the awareness of the aesthetic importance of realism, beyond its natural presence as the basis of representation. And this is a vertex that the exposition wisely shows:
The realistic aspiration is ancient and was present, albeit perhaps naively, in several previous moments of art and literature; it could be said that it is a recurrent and perennial ideal, which achieves its most rigorous and concentrated expression in the nineteenth century. What is relevant about this new appearance is that it is made with more conscious pretensions and with formulations based on rationalism in progress for the time.
To assume realism as an aesthetic of representation that allows us to penetrate reality, interpret it and understand it, even if it seems paradoxical, is the seed of contemporary understanding of representation in the strict sense, as well as understanding the functioning of representations that contravene the representation of reality.
The above elements are part of one of the most interesting debates of contemporary Literary Theory in relation to the functioning of the worlds of fiction (or perhaps it is that it is fascinating to my theoretical heart! :D).

Thank you for your sharp comment, @adncabrera. Although I am little given to nomenclatures and to reducing writers and works to such classifications, it is undeniable that there was historical literary realism, and that its presence (in addition to its works themselves) transcended to levels of great importance, those which you express very well when you speak of the question of representation in literature. Perhaps because some people dared to talk about and think about it, even if they were wrong, in a certain way (we would say today), the problem of what is the relationship between art (of the word or other media) and reality was revealed.
