Kenyan Coffee & Politics 🇰🇪

Hey Steemians,
Today took a break from my normal routine and went to the coffee shop to ponder what to do in Kenyas upcoming election next week. The coffee shop is called Cafesserie in the coastal town of Mombasa.
I ordered a Cappuccino and a Blue berry cheesecake. The coffee shop / restaurant has really good coffee drinks, desserts and a great selection to choose from when you're there for lunch or dinner. Whenever I'm in Mombasa I frequent the establishment alot.

'Cafesserie' has a sittings inside where it's air-conditioned and outside which is open and mostly for their smoking customers and of course a good wifi connection all over the coffee shop.

After ordering it didn't take long and I was served. I opened my laptop and started replying to emails and checking other business related matters. As some of you have seen Kenya will have a re-run of the presidential election on 26th of October and things are looking pretty bleak for us. The opposition candidate and his running mate have already pulled out of the coming elections because they say the electoral body (IEBC) responsible for overseeing the election is not properly equipped, lack manpower and lack transparency to conduct a free & fair elections. They also claim that the electoral body is being run by people who are pro government and pro current ruling party. To be fair some of that is true. The biggest tribe in kenya which is the Kikuyu has been in the ruling seat past 15 years and the majority of them don't want another tribe in the seat of power no matter what. The deputy president is from the Kalenjin tribe and they also want to be in the seat of power come 2022 because past 5-10 years they have supported and helped put a kikuyu as president. My view is that these 2 tribes that have always held power and the oppositions tribe of Luo from western Kenya shouldn't be allowed to run for Presidency, let kenyans choose from any of the remaining small tribes for future presidents just like the way Tanzania does. So right now Kenya is in a bad place because of the post election violence of 2007/8 is still too fresh in peoples minds and now seen as something that could easily repeat itself in 2017.

There are plenty of us in Kenya that are praying history doesn't repeat itself. As I was having my coffee I was thinking of many scenarios of 'What ifs' and how would I respond to circumstances if violence breaks out. It literally gave me headache but I have to remain focused and be prepared if need be I put my family in a plane and fly them out of the if need be. There is a couple of riots/demonstrations in the central and western parts of Kenya currently, basically the country is unstable and as if that was not enough a senior committee member of the electoral team of IEBC resigned and already left the country. She said there is no possibility of this election being conducted free and fair because there is quiet afew issues haven't been met or completed while others are still in disarray and that the elections needed to be postponed till everything is in place and complete but the ruling party and some IEBC members want it to go ahead regardless. Let's hope everything works out for the best and we pass through this troubling times unscathed.

Well friends hope you enjoyed reading and wishing y'all the more positivity for the remainder of the week.
