Fact: Accidents Do Happen
We heard at one time or another about someone being caught in a road accident. Not a day goes by that news reports of road accidents are not being broadcasted. It is an everyday occurrence. So usual, that we kinda shove it aside.
But being a witness to it is entirely a different matter. It does make your heart pump; hands shake and sweat; lips quiver. Suddenly, a realization wraps you like darkness wraps the light. Fear succumbs the entire you as your thought goes to your husband still at work, or your parents not yet home.
Motorcycle vs. Bus
Last night, I happen to witness such a fortuitous event. A motorcycle going north overtook a passenger jeepney while on the counter lane is a Victory Liner Bus.
Boom! It was a loud sound that felt like a bomb hit nearby. I felt the ground shook. It was a head-on collision.
We are only a few steps ahead of where and when the accident happened.
Pardon the low quality photo, my hands were a little shaky then.
The rider was unconscious. His helmet was shattered to pieces. His motorcycle too. I saw his legs were like jelly when he was carried into the stretcher.
Glad to know the quick response of the police and the ambulance.
During those times, I witnessed the kind-heart of the community. Some were helping the police in keeping the traffic flow smoother. Others brushing off the road the parts of the motorcycle. Still others, just murmuring under their breath, God knows what they were saying. Maybe, just like me, saying a silent prayer that the rider may surpass the accident.
We are not invincible.
When the road was finally cleared of the accident, the rider’s leather shoes was left on the road. Then I suddenly thought that maybe this rider came from work and was excited to go home to his family. It feels heartbreaking to think when his family will receive the news of the accident, it must be devastating,
Coincidentally, a day ago, I read about @shikika’s post on the reasons of road accidents. Check her post here.
Food for thought
The wisdom of this Bible text just hit me right in the face.
For man does not know his time. Just as fish are caught in an evil net and birds are caught in a trap, so the sons of men are ensnared in a time of disaster, when it suddenly overtakes them.

We know life. How uncertain it is. So we better make each day count.
