RE: Progress on our Property!

That transformation - wow!

Did your husband do this with the trackhoe? If so, how did he know how to grade the ground so professionally? A how-to on how to get the most out of a rented trackhoe would make a great post! (But if you're anything like me, you get so involved in a project like this that you never remember to take pictures.)

We've been thinking of renting one ourselves to take care of some landscaping issues that are just too big to do by hand.

Yeah, this was all done with the trackhoe. He did landscaping installment many years ago, so he had some experience with grading and operating large machinery. Most of the week was spent pulling old pieces of wood out of the ground from where the barn used to be. And then, since the barn used to house horses, chickens, pigs, and goats at different times in its life, the soil beneath and around it was basically black muck. That had to be double-dug and spread around in order to achieve a soil consistency that would support a structure. The last two days were spent actually grading, but we didn't completely finish before we had to turn the trackhoe back in, so we hired another guy to come out and finish the grading for us. It only took him one day--he said my husband had done a great job, and he only had to level out the building site and dig a trench for drainage.
