Anyone know a good book about How to Get Out Of Debt and Build Wealth?

in #life7 years ago

Why is it that Schools and Colleges and Universities train us skills we can use to earn money - but - none of them teach about how to take some of that money and Build our Personal Wealth?

I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. I took Economics classes and Finance classes and Accounting classes.

Not one of those classes taught me how to get out of debt. Not one of them taught me to put aside a little money for rainy days and emergencies and opportunities. Not one of them taught me how to save a little and invest it and grow it.

The main thing I learned about personal finance was how to borrow money and go deep in debt with student loans.

I went to university for more than 4 years and spent tens of thousands of dollars and I was no wiser about how to build personal wealth.

I later learned more about building personal wealth by reading a book written almost 100 years ago now. The book cost me less than $10 and only took a couple of hours to read. The book even had a chapter on how to get out of debt.

The book was "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Clason. You can still buy it in bookstores and online today.

Anyone else know a good book they recommend for me to read on How to Get Out Of Debt and Build Wealth?

It is sad that so many people have no idea about money management. Part of the problem is that our economy is based on always producing more. People need to spend more to make that work.
If you save and only buy what you can afford - you are not a good consumer. The one this type of system needs to function.

you nailed a very big problem @mariannewest - the economy is driven by spending, and the banks and the central bankers and the politicians know this.

they very deliberately lowered interest rates to near zero and have kept them low over the last 10 years to try and get people to borrow more money at these historically low rates, to have more money available, to spend more, to revive an ailing economy.

what is the answer? is there an answer?

in the meantime people, be safe - get out of debt and put some of your paper money into some gold and some silver and some cyber currencies.

I do think there is an answer. When more people get into the ideas of regenerative living - way beyond sustainable and use ideas like permaculture, share economy and such - I think we can get there.
Also, when we realize that happiness does not come from buying and owning things, but from within and from living a meaningful life.
Hoping we get there - we are trying to do our part with our podcast. Just opening the mind that other possibilities exist.

Robert Kiyosaki has a few good books that focus on the subject of gaining financial independence.

His book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" offers some good insights and information about how to take charge of your own financial well-being, instead of leaving it up to a company or a government to take care of you.

I found some of the "business tips" a bit beyond my capacity (I am definitely NOT a businessman nor a salesman, and have failed at both such careers :-) ) Still, Kiyosaki makes some good points, and the book is an easy read.

Another book in his "Rich Dad" series that is well worth reading is the "Guide to Investing in Gold and Silver," written by Mike Maloney.

Currently, gold and silver are insanely undervalued. The prices of both gold and silver have been severely suppressed (read, "manipulated") – for the past few years in particular. The suppression cannot go on forever, and the prices are now expected to rise. The only questions are how soon and how much.
