Do you have a lack of self-esteem?

I never had a lack of self-esteem. I never thought I was a big zero, the reason my parents got divorced.

I had a very abusive childhood.

I was also married with a narcissist. I had to save my life twice, but still I never had a reason to believe it is true what they told about me. What they wanted me to believe.

How come I have never been: drinking,

smoking, using drugs? How come I did not end up as in a box outside on the street? How come I did study? Kept on studying? Was able to raise 5 children (mainly as a single mom with a fulltime job as well!) without having a mental breakdown?

I could have been like the ones who "raised" me.

Instead I am me. A person who, already as a little child, did question what was said.

Did this attitude save me? Is it my strong will or is it simply a questio of a strong character?
If I read or hear stories about low self-esteem, how people say someone manipulated them or read tips about how to get more self-esteem I wonder why people need it. It must be good business.
