Always appreciate yourself and Remain you(Wafrica Guest Post)
We live in a world today where so many people look down on themselves. So many people have a negative image of themselves or experience low self-esteem.
This is mainly caused by peer influence and what others think about them. Some have struggled with this problem so much that they have had to make decisions they live to regret everyday.
To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.
~Thich Nhat Hanh
When you tend to be so much affected and influenced by what others think, say or expect of you then a fact is you will find it difficult to be you in life. Since people's expectations change with time, your life and way of living will be controlled by them and you will find yourself changing yourself constantly to meetup with their demands and expectations. To put it short, your life will be run and controlled by others, you will be living for them.
But the question is:
what about you?
What is so wrong in just being you?
The answer is Nothing is wrong in being you.
We are all created differently and to be different in one way or the other and it is these differences that makes you unique. That makes you to be YOU as an individual. It forms your personality and trying to change it is trying to be someone else and that is dangerous to your destiny in life.
The fact is, not everyone can or will ever like you even if you are the most flawless person. I remember one time women were all bleaching their skin and said all they guys are going for fair skinned ladies. One time everyone wanted to be slim and said it is the ringing body figure.I have noticed the female gender is the one that suffers most from the issue of low-self esteem and appreciating themselves.
Have you ever given it a thought that the one thing you want to change about yourself or people want you to change might just be the one thing that will bring you to your glorious destiny?
Changing yourself or who you are can change your destiny in life. Many destinies have been altered by the drastic decisions people have made to try to fit in societal standards for them. People have had to change their unique peronality and conform to societal expectations of them leading them to choosing wrong paths in life.
We need to appreciate what we are, accept it and be proud of it. Learn how to deal with what others think or expect of you.
For example in my class, my mates always make fun of me having Ngoppoh as they call it and i don't let that get to me. Rather what i tell them is:
This my Ngoppoh that you make fun of will be the highest thing my wife will love in me or the one thing that will lead me to my destiny in life
People make fun of you having a funny head, lips, shape, face, figure etc. They call it your flaws but i see them as great assets. After all isn't it said that
Another man's food is another man's poison
So why bother yourself when someone does not like or appreciate a part of you. There is someone else who will adore it and even die for it.
So appreciate yourself and be proud of who you are, what you are, how you are. That's what makes you YOU and you should be proud of it.
If you don't appreciate yourself then nobody will
So remember to always appreciate yourself and most importantly remain you. There is a purpose for everything and that includes why you were made in a particular unique way.
Society see it as flaws but i see them as great assets
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

I think what fuels peer pressure more is the fact that people think that when a lot of people are ding something in a particular way, then its automatically the right thing to do whiles forgetting that they are entitled to their own preferences.
yes..and it is serious sometimes
