The United States Civilian Forces opened a Zello channel called "Hurricane Irma Rescue and Relief" on 9/4/17 to help respond to the imminent danger posed by Irma, a record breaking category 5 185mph hurricane that devastated tge Florida keys and other parts of the state.
At the peak the channel had over 1500 users listening in simultaneously (channel limit is 2000).
Over the course of 10 days the channel processed and received nearly 30k subscribers!
The USCF volunteer team included professional EMS medics, nurses, firemen, military personnel on leave, police officers, coastguardsmen, veterans, IT professionals, former 911 dispatchers, professional rescue divers, security professionals, college students, weather spotters, ambulance teams, boaters, US state militia teams, democrats, republicans, libertarians, and even anarchists - all working together hand-in-hand for many sleepless nights to save the lives of all regardless of color, creed, nationality or race.
This was America at its best!!!
The USCF stood up its geocyberspace civilian defense grid, launched in 2015 and in beta mode ever since, for the first time in response to a major national disaster, though Irma marked the 5th major hurricane USCF volunteers have participated in (SC, FL, LA, TX, FL) since 2015.
