How to Act like Indonesian

in #life6 years ago

So, you have a plan to visit Indonesia? Wanna know how we act so you can blend in? It's easy! Take a look at these tips.

1. Never, ever show in time.

If you have a plan to meet your friends, colleagues, on reunions, etc, always come not in time. Show up at least an hour past due time. You master the time, others will have to wait for you.

2. Throw your trash everywhere.

The world is your trash bin, throw your rubbish everywhere! Our favorite trash spot is the waterways and rivers. If you see a river with dark colors and plastic bags floating around, you've seen our masterpiece of river littering. Screw fish, go trash!

3. Never turn your blinker on.

Blinkers are for pussies. You want to turn? Then turn away, where ever you want, whenever you need to. Other drivers doesn't matter, you and only you alone rule the roads.

4. Violates the traffic lights and signs.

You wanna cross that intersection but the light is red? Do you see cops around? No? Then go! The road is yours, no one can stop you.

5. Smokes, and mock who doesn't.

So, you are being polite and offer someone a cigarette but they refuse? Mock the shit out of him! Call him pussy and sissy. Smoking is manly and cool. Screw that nerd, he doesn't deserve it anyway.

6. Be a racist!

It's pretty obvious, no? But you might want to skip this one. As a minority, it might backfired at you. Tenfold. Or worse.

If you read this article up to this point, you might have noticed that I was OBVIOUSLY being sarcastic. Please do not, I repeat do not do those things above. Those are typical people you might find here in Indonesia. Of course, not all of us is a backward savages a-holes. Some of us are educated and civilized people you know. In case you find yourself stranded in our place for whatever reason, you won't be surprised anymore by our "normal" behavior.

If you're an Indonesian and you feel offended because you've done one or all of those things above, screw you! It's not cool man, that's pretty shameful behavior. Please refrain to stain our name further, and do the right things. We have gifted the beauty of mother nature and our job is to keep it that way. Start from the small things. Start from yourself. Take that first step, and be a better person.

Ahem, anyway, pardon my language above. I have no intention to offend anyone. I was just trying to be honest with my feeling and pour it into words.
Here's some of my opinion that I think how's those things should be.

1. Show up on time.

Being late is not cool man. Stop thinking that everyone is also thinking the same as you. Some people actually appreciate time, and come on time. You make those people wait because of your selfishness. Try to encounter the probability of you being late. Stuck on traffic jam? Then get out early. Flat tires? Then always have a spare in your car. Wive take too long to get ready? Well, I feel you on that one man, can't complain on that one lol. The point is, try to keep your time on track and scheduled.

2. Manage your trash.

This one is simple. Just don't throw your shits anywhere other than trash bin. If you can't find one, just hold it until you find one. I promise it won't take long. They're pretty much available in every corner of buildings.

3. Always turn your blinker on when turning.

It's for your own safety. I almost hit another driver quite often because they didn't turn their blinker when turning. The manufacturer put it there for a reason man, use it. Don't be such a dick.

4. Obey the traffic law.

Pretty obvious isn't it? It's dangerous to hit the red light. Even though the road is pretty empty and you think it's okay, it's still make the other driver from across the line feel uncomfortable. Please refrain doing this.
Here's another article from @rakhmatmargajaya about the same subject. You might be interested to read that one too.

5. Respect other people choices.

I'm fine with smoker, really. Most of my friends are addicted smoker, and I'm cool with it. Smoking is like having a dick, it's fine to have one but it's not okay to swing it around my face. I meant, I'm fine if you choose to inject 28.8 mg of poison into your respiratory system every single day, that's your choice. But calling me sissy for not doing it? it's illogical. What does manliness have to do with poisoning yourself? Well yeah, it could be considered badass, but not in good term. Anyway, the point is, I'm fine with you smoking, as long as you keep them to yourself. I still strongly advice you don't though. Especially if you're underage.

6. Respect others from different ethnic.

I often find minorities in my city being treated different. People call them names, but not their actual name. Si Jawa (that Javanese guy), Si Batak (that Batak guy), etc. It's seem simple and doesn't matter because everybody did it, but it does. It's shows gaps on our community. Remember, our motto is Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, unity in diversity. Please act like it say, and respect each others.

Well, thank you for reading my babble. Sorry for those who are offended.
I won't ask for upvotes this time, I'll just ask you to be a better person, one step at a time, and make our neighbourhood a better place.
But I won't complain if you give me some though, upvotes and comments are always appreciated.

Cheers!
