Featured on Friday's: Body Boarding @ Flow House, Bangkok
Hello Steemian friends,
We hope everyone has a fantastic week and yes, it has arrived.....it's FRIDAYYYYY!!!!
We are looking forward to this weekend as tomorrow, 3rd of March is....Becca's birthday! She will be turning 26 and is looking forward to a meal with Sam and his family as she introduces them to some vegan food. We'll tell you all about it in our Tasty Tuesday next week.
Our Featured on Friday's this week, is actually a throwback to last year. We had a reminder on Facebook this week that Sam's sister took us to a place called 'Flow House' in Bangkok for a late Valentine's treat (somehow she thought she needed to give us one of these). Flow House is a place where one can go and enjoy a spot of surfing without going to the beach. It's a wave machine (two, actually) that creates artificial waves in order to practice your surfing or body boarding skills. Or like us, as beginners, try it out!
As you can see from the pictures below, we had a good hour of falling on our sides and asses. It was scary at first, but we got use to the feeling. If anything, by the end, the feeling of being pushed by water right to the top of the platform was enjoyable. We can say the 700 baht ($22.25) per person per hour (this is the price before 17:00) was spent more for our enjoyment rather than any surfing skills building. Yes, we managed to get from body boarding to knee boarding, but just couldn't get to surfing without an assistance of a rope.
Here's a video of Sam going from body boarding to knee boarding
The staff were great there and very encouraging to get you into the sport. There is a bar, where they serve food and drinks. We got a beer each to enjoy afterwards. There is also (conveniently) an O'Neill's shop next door. Just for those newly converted surfers to get their gear for the next time. Is the hour worth it for the money you pay? Well, you are paying for a technical lesson by a qualified instructor and with the maintenance of the whole place, so you can see why it is priced like that. It is worth it for a try and then it's up to you after that. If you are a tourist, there are many other things you can do in Bangkok before visiting Flow House. This activity is one if you are stumped for ideas, it's a hot day and the hotel pool just won't do it for you!
Stay Classy Steemians!

Never knew about this, right up my back alley!! On my wish list next time I stopover in Bangers! :)
Well, now you do ;) Hopefully, you can have a go the next time you stopover in BKK. Take some good shots and vids, we would like to see how you fare compare to us (probably better)! hehehe
I've always wondered how hard that surface is when you fall. I've seen some people take pretty big spills in those things. Seems like it would have to be a pretty solid surface.
If you have a really bad fall and fight against the waves it can be quite painful/there will be a bruise the next day. The advice was 'if you fall, don't save yourself, just go with the FLOW' ;) wonder where they got that saying from?!
lol I was actually literally just thinking this right after I posted "I wanna do that!" 'cause I fell on some waterfalls the other day and got a concussion :( Soooo maybe I shouldn't do this when I go to BKK again haha
OH, concussions are no fun. I've had three and two came with full blown amnesia. Thought I was losing my mind! Get well and stay safe @nomadicsoul so you can keep pumping out great content!
Aww thanks for the nice comment! Well I guess technically you were losing your mind!
We hope you are fine and will get better soon @nomadicsoul! Maybe sit this one out and watch, take photos/videos and sip on a cold one. It's almost as good! Hope all is well in Chiang Mai (you're still there, right?) and have a good weekend!
@qberry, maybe you did lose your mind.... :p hehehe your brain seems to be working fine now and if not, then we're all loony. This could be a very real possibility. #fact
Welp, definitely looks like I was doing Bangkok all wrong lol this looks awesome! Maybe it's 'cause it's so freaking hot outside right now
This place is mainly visited by expats, tourists (who love surfing) and rich Thais, so you probably wouldn't have seen this even in the top 100 suggested things to do in Bangkok. Most are happy with a pool in their hotel and we know what you mean it's super hot now and it's only going to get hotter as we approach Thai summer. We're looking into getting a pool (the ones with metal frames, not a full size one nor a blow-up paddling pool...somewhere in-between). Stay cool @nomadicsoul (both literally and physically) :)
I'm always tempted to try one of those artificial waves but on the other hand, not feeling the rest of the vacation in a hospital. This was fun to watch though!!!
You can get pretty bad falls doing this, so unless you are pretty sure about it (and have a good travel insurance) then go for it. Hey, people come here for medical tourism, so if you do end up in the hospital might as well get some other packages thrown in. What do you need? Face-lift, tummy tuck, enhancements or reductions? Hehehe
Thanks for stopping by @for91days and it was fun to do! :)
that looks like so much fun! we're no surfers but we love body boarding every now and then :)
Happy birthday Becca!
It was so much fun @wanderwithtwo and we're not surfers too, but it was fun to learn some basics and enjoy the experience. You live in Australia and are close to a beach, why aren't you surfers? The stereotype, when one thinks of Australia, is the laid-back lifestyle surfing and having BBQs on the weekends. Just not you? hehehe
Thanks for the birthday wishes and hope you have a great weekend!
I didn't know there's such a place like this in BKK. Gotta get out of my house more often 🤣🤣☁️
There is so much going on in Bangkok and not all events are like this where you pay quite a bit for an experience. We're quite lucky to have friends and family that know what is going on in Bangkok and like to attend a few of these events.
Get out of your house and wander - there's more to Bangkok then the tourist sites and shopping malls (but then again, there are a lot of these too). hehehe have a great weekend! Looking forward to seeing more deliciousness from you!
Hahaa will do and yess, been writing and updating my blogs/vdos every single day :D You too! have a great weekend :)
I'd love to give this a go ! looks so much fun !
You should as it is so much fun! Especially on hot days like today, falling into the water and letting the waves take you away wasn't take bad :p
Next time in that area I'll give it a go 💦
Hiya, just swinging by to let you know that this post made the Honorable mentions list in today's #TravelDigest!
Thank you! We'll take a look at it now :)
