Being open-minded and being CURIOUS seem to be related, and at the core of this issue. Being curious (like the mythical Pandora and her box) tends to lead us through high and low places, but BOTH of these ultimately bring us to a deeper, and more refined, understanding of life. Many people live shallow, boring lives because they are low in curiosity, and so they don't challenge themselves to explore positive and negative experiences.
