Aloha Steemit Fam!!!

Today, our family went for an adventure out into the medicine-riddled desert of Southern Utah.

Our mission...harvest local spring water and herbs.

This has been a tradition of ours for nearly a decade and we are still going strong.

Most people know about the benefits of drinking local spring water.

...

Most people know about the benefits of wild-crafted local herbs.

Check out this article for more details: http://www.naturallifeenergy.com/wildcrafted-vs-organic-vs-conventional/

But very few are aware of the badassery of combining the two...then charging them in the sun...while the wild yeasts and bacteria break-down/pre-digest the medicine.

By combining these elements...we are capturing the unique terroir of the local environment, through the plants/soil/air and water.

Studies of the human gut show that environment affects quality, quantity, and diversity of gut flora just as much as diet.

Check out this article where scientists looked at the difference between hunter-gatherer's and Westerner's gut-bacteria.

...

You can also use common garden herbs such as rosemary, calendula, parsley and mint.

This is ancient...so all we're doing here is remembering. When we allow the myriad of plant intelligences to teach through us...there's just no limit to the wisdom and healing that can be channeled and experienced.

If this interests you...here's an article I wrote on "plant-based healing" that describes the process and benefits of developing personal relationships with local herbs.

Now...on to the instructions for how to create your own medicinal brew.

The two herbs we have chosen for our sour fizzy concoction are manzanita leaf/bark and juniper berry. Both are powerful herbs for the kidney and lymphatic system. They are both conducive to detoxification, removing congestion, and reducing inflammation throughout the body.

In my personal experience, using a dried berry or fruit of some kind helps speed the fermentation process...but it's not necessary.

STEP 1:

Once you have chosen your herbal allies...simply place a handful into a glass container with 3-4 cups spring water.

STEP 2:

Place the jar in a sunny spot with a loose fitting cloth on top for 4-6 hours. I like to put it on a rock for the added geo-thermal/magnetic joy. After this point, the brew is ready to drink. If you want to let it ferment proceed to step 3.

STEP 3

Place jar in a cool spot away from direct sunlight for about a week. Until you start to notice bubbles in the water. This is evidence of friendly microbes doing their thang. 🙌🏽

STEP 4:

The final step is to refrigerate and enjoy. You might like to add a bit of local honey or maple syrup for a sweeter taste. Personally I like to just drink a shot glass of this fizzy medicine every few days.

Be sure to keep about a fourth cup of the herb-water to inoculate your next batch. This will speed up the process next time and increase the potency of the medicine.

Voila!!!! Fermente Terroir!!!

Let us know if you try it!!! We'd love to hear from you!!!!

Aloha,
