Yeah. It's definitely a worthy 'perk', although I couldn't get everything I needed into my car anyway. I'd need something along the lines of a van or SUV to seriously make the switch, but I think they would pay gas and miles if I did. Still, since they have the van for company use, there's not much of an incentive to drive something of my own instead.
I thought it was a lot of miles myself, since 1,000 miles seems to be the standard or 12,000 a year, when they go looking at used cars and the mileage on them. I think the van is from 2012, so it has a solid seven years of work on it so far.
