Networking in a Voluntary Society: The Tremendous Value of Aligning Interests

“If I send you to fight a sabretooth tiger, odds are: Tiger – 1, You – Zero.

It’s not gonna go very well.

But if we go out as a group, we’re pretty amazing. And the reason is because we all have our strengths and we all have our weaknesses.

And the goal is not to fix your weaknesses, the goal is to amplify your strengths and surround yourself with people who can do what you can’t do.”Simon Sinek.

Sometimes the world seems to be divided between those who advocate extreme individualism, and those who preach about dangerous collectivism.

However, there are instances where individualism is a substantial advantage and others where solidarity and team-work is an effective asset and a great virtue.

Certain aspects in life require a certain degree of individualism, most aspects I would say, from forming your own opinions to favoring critical thought over the dominant narrative of your era.

If the only reason you do what you do is to please people, or to be a replicant in a game you didn’t chose… Then you’re losing your very essence.

But on the other hand, you'll need other people to move forward, you can’t do it all by yourself. As Arnold Swharzenenger recently said: "I'm not a self-made man".

We’re a sociable species after all, so might as well take the best of both worlds.

In that sense, aligning your interest with the interest of others is one of the most efficient and productive ways to produce a positive outcome.

Creating a win-win situation is always key to the success of any business.

But it gets better, what happens when the win-wins compound and multiply?

You see, that's what's amazing about the steem blockchain, that it creates the perfect system for aligning interests.

To Our Future Friends

Say you’re a writer, reader, video-maker, or a singer trying to carve your path and create your brand.

Chances are you are a user of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and what have you.

And the reason you are on those platforms is because you want to open yourself to new audiences.

Not only the same is true here as well, but on top of opening yourself to new audience and a new vibrant community of amazing people, you’re also likely to receive some sort of monetary rewards.

Although the rewards might not be much at the beginning, the power of compound interest is substantial.

Imagine the value if the audience grows, and the price rises…etc.

Inevitably, your individual success and your self-interest is directly aligned with the success of steem, of the rest of the steem community, and of course the steem blockchain.

But here’s the best part, chances are that you will fall in love with the concept, the platform and the people here.

So now you find yourself in an amazing situation: You’re getting rewarded for doing what you’re good at in a place that you love.

“There are exceptional people out there who are capable of starting epidemics. All you have to do is find them.” ― Malcolm Gladwell.

It Always Starts With a Snow Ball

The more people align their successes with the success of steem, the more it grows, the more their friends or audience come here, the more people with more skills and connections come here, the more chances of going viral, and the more spectacular this ride will be.

Because aligning interests is one of the most effective ways to change the world for the better.

From the light bulb to the printing press, they all made life better for the individual and as a consequence they changed the world in a significant manner.

That’s part of the reason why the steem concept is at the same time genius and fascinating, because it has the potential of changing the world through voluntary transactions and interactions, while creating tons of value in return.

“What makes networking work is that it sets up win-win situations in which all parties involved get to take something home. Networking is a sharing process. Until you understand that, you won't have much of a network.” ― Earl G. Graves, Sr.

Right now, at this very moment in the history of human kind, we are fighting dragons looking like windmills. If only everyone understood what you have just shared with us... The world would be a different place. I have the feeling the internet and such site as Steemit.com enhances our potential to reach such understanding and, by the same token, empower us all knowingly or not.

Great timely post! I could go o for a LOOOOONG while, but you definitely shared the essential wisdom of it all. All for one and one for all!!! Namaste :)

Upvoted and resteemed!

Thank you Eric, and please go for a long while whenever you have something to say, you always add a plus, and I for one I'm interested to hear it .

Yeah I thing everyone is feeling the winds of change :)

Awesome post @the-alien. I whole heartily agree with @eric-boucher.

Eric I see your awesome comments everywhere. They're so awesome. You're smart. I encourage you to write. I want to see you create consensus.

Wow, thank you so very much for the kind, inspiring and highly motivating words. I definitely register it all and it sure adds up in my mind and in my levels of desire to get more and more involved with a decent group of intelligent and creative thinkers. I madly miss this in my life right now, as it has been way too long since I have been in such environments, and so far it is through the intermediary of Steemit.com that I find such individuals and, by the sound of it, soon to be-built groups/ communities of individuals in this realm of thinking and action.

All for one and one for all! Namaste :)

Great post and I totally agree. People underestimate their own potential and the key to success is to be yourself an share who you really are. The right people will resonate with the real you. I see Steem as the ultimate vehicle for genuine relationships and it should be considered a great opportunity for everyone.

yeah you hit it in the nail, plus genuine relationships are the ones who last :)

Well said! I have worked in the voluntary sector for 15 years until redundancy struck. Nowadays people can get lost and the willingness to share and become humble becomes a lesser priority. This place could, and should be a way to develop alliances, spread the word and hopefully develop charitable funding.....Now there's a plan of action??

Did you mean sabre-tooth tiger?

Thanks Matt, corrected.. Spellcheck probably.. Fixed! Thanks again :)

I hate to be 'that guy', but find people like the chance to edit before the window closes. Great piece btw :)

Oh no! You're not 'that guy'. That's a great thing to do actually.

Much better than letting the person stay in the mistake, I mean it man, I appreciate that you told me.

I noticed a moment ago that in the Title Line "Networking in a Volutary Society: The Tremendous Value of Aligining Interests" Voluntary & Aligning were 'out of sync' spelling wise too. Just noticed because I was including your article as a link in one of my posts comment section to another user. (and it didn't spellcheck) ~Peace!

Thanks for letting me know! I'll change it right away :)

I was raised up believing I was somehow unique
Like a snowflake distinct among snowflakes, unique in each way you can see
And now after some thinking, I'd say I'd rather be
A functioning cog in some great machinery serving something beyond me…

I don't know if a social platform can save the world AL, but it might make a few lives worth living.

Not save the world, but create a different trend and effect some change :)

Hey, don't underestimate it. Trending towards togetherness could go a long way to saving the world.

Haha I don't underestimate it at all :) I'll keep pushing forward regardless of the result :)

I'm behind you :)

Hi there! So when you said the horror story you wrote was not typical for you I took it to mean that specific genre, but did you actually mean fiction? I'm just curious because I really loved the story.
To be honest, I am generally more into reading fiction, though I have to say the way you put words together is masterful and I find myself interested in your articles as well :)

I upvoute, follow & resteem you. So I can read more again after chores today.

nice, thanks for sharing

Came back to re-read your post again. @countzero quoted you on my blog, so I gave this one a Re-Steem as well! Great Content. :)
