Mindfulness - On Deconstructing And Reconstructing The Psyche

in #life7 years ago (edited)

The majority of human mental activity relies on a series of subjective measurements.

That being said, take caution in how you measure. Take caution in how you define, judge, and determine. And like any good metrologian, be sure to check your work. Assess and reassess your criterion of measurement, not just your measurements.

It is important that we be considerate not only of what we think, but also of how we think. The context of our finite thoughts may be more important than the content because the context informs the content. Therefore, be aware of your biases and be aware of your suppositions. Take apart your starting points and see what the world looks like when they are put back together in different configurations.

The exploration and invention of new states of reference is a powerful tool for the generation of categorically novel thought content. The reconfiguration of held premises results in new and unique ideas about ourselves and our relationship to the world. These new and unique ideas empower us to actively change and reshape the world. By changing the way that we view and think about the world, we empower ourselves to change our behavior and actions within it, manifesting real change through active participation in cause and effect.

It may be helpful to remember that measurements and systems of measurement themselves are ultimately arbitrary and operate by way of imagination - nothing more. Where is there an "inch", anywhere in the Universe, except in your metering out of it? Measurement is a creative interpretive act of the mind, similar to language. As such, even the specific metrology you employ can be deconstructed and reconstructed at will.

Be conscious of your consciousness, and in that awareness, choose Love.

Just some thoughts for the evening. Thank you, Steemit!

I'm new to Steemit, and I'd love to chat about philosophy and all kinds of far out cool stuff with you! Let me know what you thought about this post, and follow for more! :)

Sort:

First Principles are ultimately important, and I agree with you that they and all their derivatives should be re-evaluated periodically as we learn more.

Of course, as a metrologist by education, I love that you wrote about this. What we humans do, for the most part, is measure things and assign labels from those measurements. So many people never give it a first conscious thought.

We'd love to see you more in the Writers' Block! Your writing is good and you could offer much. Have you workshopped anything yet, to see how the process works? I think you'd be happy with the result. All I can say is that everything I put through the workshops comes out better.

Thank you, Dad! Things should settle down for me a bit once I get back from Indonesia. I'll have an economics class around Spring, but that's it, so I'll be able to spend more time engaged in the community. :) Steemit has already improved my writing, so I'm looking forward to that trend continuing! :)
