in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hi there!

This is my cinematic edit of some footage I took of this magnificent building... It is the Latvian National Theatre building! Freshly renovated! Looks pretty nice! What do you think?

Enjoy!

Big shoutout to @DtubeDaily community, there are a lot of inspiring people there!

Whoa! Outstanding. Did you just use a lamppost as a wipe? So cool!

I love these kinds of buildings. When I was in Odessa for a year, I wrote my term paper on the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre, another outstandingly beautiful building.

Yeap! I really love these transitions! Started doing them a while ago and then noticed where I got inspired. Turns out Edgar Wright uses these in his every film. And I was watching his movies when I was a kid.

Still a kid tho :D

Got embedded in my mind until one time I somehow did it... And thought that it looks epic. So I started implementing these everywhere! Love how it just flows.

Love how it just flows.

It really does. I had to rewind and do a double take just to make sure I caught it right!

Very cool, Reinis! A couple of questions, Sensei:

Is the opening shot flown backwards and reversed? Wax on? Wax off? ;-)

How do you achieve these neat arcing fly-by motions? (e.g. at 0:25) Do you nail the camera to a center spot with ActiveTrack and fly sideways, or is it done entirely by hand with practice, or is there a mode in the Mavic Pro I don't have in my Spark?

Are the ground level shots done with a (dedicated) gimbal or with the drone in hand?

Yes! It is reversed!

And all of the motion is manually made with my fingers. No flight modes... I don't use them... Ok, I once used follow me so the drone would follow me from work to home in gta2 style, but that's it :D

Console gaming helped me with these drone skills :D

And ground camera was GH5 with zhyjun crane v2

Have a nice day! :)

Thanks for the answer. Congratulations on your amazing dexterity with those sticks, it really looks like the rotation is nailed to the screen.

I've seen your gimbal episode, 100% agreed. I use a DJI Osmo Mobile, but then again, I'm a poor amateur. ;-)

A nice day / evening to you as well.

Thanks!!!
Osmo mobile is also very good for filmmaking! You need a good phone tho... With a good camera. I am thinking of getting zhijun smooth q or the Osmo mobile...
It's a very good tool and if used properly can be very powerful for some epic cinematic storytelling! :)

Osmo works great, but they are pretending to have time lapse motion control. At only 720p that's a disappointment. Also requires an older DJI GO app, which is as bloated as the DJI GO 4 app. Double the space for very little effect. Mechanical quality is excellent, batteries on the older model are changeable, not on the newer. Compare carefully.

WoW... ok I guess the smooth q just won! :D
