In this chapter we will share why we believe that building margin into your life allows for leisure and why that is a good thing. We explore why you should play and discover what moves you.

In Avoiding Burn Out, we briefly touched on “that is best is to build margin into your life.”

Now we want to stress how important that idea is to be NOT-stressed out!

There is no shortage of things in this world that need to get done.

Small things.

Big things.

Important things.

Unimportant things.

But, it is not up to you to do them all.

And sometimes it is okay not to do anything at all.

Rest is good and is necessary.

I think in this digital age it is easy to get lost in always “checking your phone” or googling something or just scrolling.

Not all life is productive, nor should it be.

Sometimes disconnecting is good and needed.

But I think that is only a half answer.

It is important to learn to live in a world where these things exist and not just shun them.

Ignoring the benefits of modern technology is not enough.

We must learn ways to cope with it and use it for our good.

One way to do that is to have time set aside just for that purpose.

Take Some Time To Figure Out What You Want

This time set aside for rest or leisure is the margin in your life that allows you room to breathe and figure things out.

This ain’t rocket science.

Like we mentioned in the Introduction, “Nothing in this book is earth shattering news, but more of a personal story about what we’ve found helpful and want to share with you in the hopes it can help your life too!”.

The ideas are simple and are simply reminders.

Ever feel so exhausted that you can’t do one more thing?

Take a nap.

Can’t focus on your task at hand?

Take a walk.

Feeling sad?

Pet a puppy!

You get the idea!

The idea here is to find a way to “play” and not take life too seriously because as they say “no one gets out alive”. ;)

There is no shortage of activities you can do by yourself for fun.

I know because I’ve done most all of them, or at least these ideas…

My go to is reading.

But drawing is fun too.

Or just thinking, if you’re into that.

The thing is that I could list off a ton more, but what is really important is for you to find out what you are into.

Like gardening, you have to dig it.

But you can’t find out what you enjoy if you don’t give things a try. Take the time to seek out new things. Learning takes time so don’t give up if you are not good at it immediately.

Ultimately, finding fun activities usually opens you up to a world of communities of people who enjoy doing the same things.

When you spend time being 100% you then you are being All Natural!
