If motive is the part you struggle with then you must not be incredibly observant. Have you missed what happened in the past 15 years? Perhaps you've never heard of PNAC or the scores of neocons who were itching to pursue what 9/11 made extremely easy. In fact, PNAC stated quite openly that their plans required a "new Pearl Harbor".
