Full Speed On The Highway Of Consumerism

I Consume ; Therefore I Am

We consume to keep up. Every occasion is a means to show off. We hate our lives in private, but love to brag about it in public. We live in a society where materialistic possessions are regarded as the ultimate status symbol. It’s all about the display of the external facade. The highway of consumerism leads to a dead-end road, but our collective unconsciousness as a society prevents us from realizing such truth. We keep on buying our emptiness, loneliness and boredom away.

Getting our hands on the newest gadgets in town is the way of life too many have mindlessly subscribed to. Living to impress has sadly became a lifestyle. Constantly bombarded by temptation, we give in to anything that screams fleeting pleasure. Failing to understand that gratitude can’t be bought - only cultivated - we fall deeper into this consumerism hole. Instead of wanting what we already have, we’re constantly on the lookout for what we don’t possess. Isn’t the grass always greener from afar?

Stuck inside our own bubble of unconsciousness, we haven’t yet realized that contentment can’t be bought. Our unhealthy capitalist mentality is only reinforced daily by the equally unhealthy content we consume. Too bad we have chosen a path that will forever lead to dissatisfaction. Haven’t you yet understood that price tags aren’t fulfillment tags?

Our vulnerabilities are exploited daily, but we’re oblivious to this alarming reality. Greed is our driving force in life, and we exploit our paychecks to make sure we keep our safe spot in this endless path leading us further away from what matters the most.

We trade our time, resources and energy, for objects, possessions and materials that are doomed to leave us forever empty. Riding the waves of superficiality is what we’ve been conditioned to do. Our wants are limitless, which only equates more internal emptiness.

Attaching ones feeling of self-worth or value to material items: Phones, shoes, handbags, cars...Anything really - It's a fool's errand and along the way many of those fools forget what's truly important.

Well said!

Call it how I see it I guess...Seems you agree, so thank you. :)

A brutal and unfortunate truth!

Another gem honey!
