Vitamin D is essential for many body functions. It is important for ensuring bone health and, bone loss and several diseases related to bones, such as hyperparathyroidism, osteomalacia, rickets, osteoporosis and brittle bones. There is also a link between vitamin D deficiency and severe health conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and osteoarthritis. Our body absorbs vitamin D from various sources. In the absence of vitamin D, our body cannot absorb calcium, due to which we face calcium deficiency as well. Despite having calcium in your diet, if you’re vulnerable to bone fractures, then the deficiency of vitamin D might be the cause.

Here are some of the most common symptoms of vitamin D deficiency that you shouldn’t ignore :

  • Bone Pain
This might be the most obvious symptom of vitamin deficiency. Our bones need to be strong to function throughout the day. If they aren’t strong enough, you can experience pain in the bones and stiffness as the obvious signs. Due to vitamin deficiency bones tend to become softer and tender, due to which they can bend or break.
  • Lack of Stamina
While there are many reasons you might feel exhausted after a little exertion. However, lack of stamina is a highlight sign of vitamin D deficiency. If your lifestyle and eating habits are normal and you’re still feeling lethargic, it might be due to vitamin D deficiency. Sometimes it’s hard to discover the lack of stamina as we gradually become used to it. You can notice it during your exercise routine. If you get tired quickly and your body takes a lot of time to recover from the previous exertion, then you’re probably lacking vitamin D.
  • Susceptible to Diseases
A person having vitamin D deficiency becomes susceptible to disease and infections. That’s because a lack of vitamin D can weaken your immune system, due to which you can catch different kinds of infections very quickly. If you’re prone and sensitive to normal infections like cold and flu, you should probably see a doctor for possible deficiencies.
  • Depression
Sometimes you are not the one to be blamed for your depression. While you could be thinking that you’re taking life too seriously, vitamin D is possibly doing the job. If you find yourself being depressed for no obvious reasons, it could be due to deficiency of vitamin D. This is because vitamin D can respond to the receptors of your brain, which is the core reason of any of your mental conditions.
  • Lethargy
What comes along with fatigue and lack of stamina is lethargy. You can feel tired all the time even without doing any exertion. So, if you think you’re just another procrastinator, maybe you’re not understanding yourself well enough.
  • Sleep
Vitamin D deficiency is also associated with sleep abnormality. There can be several causes of getting a bad sleep or finding it difficult to sleep during the night, but if you are out of your vitamins, you will be out of sleep as well. If you have a sleeping problem with no other disorders, get yourself tested for deficiencies.
  • Sweating
If you see someone sweating exhaustively even when doing normal things, like eating, it could be due to deficiency of vitamin D. A person with vitamin D deficiency usually faces the problem of forehead sweating.
  • No erection
For all the gentlemen out there, if a problem like this occurs you don’t need to lower your self-esteem and feel bad about it. You simply need to figure out what’s causing it. Maybe it’s just a deficiency of vitamin D.

Conclusion
Vitamin D pills are effective for ensuring that your vitamin levels get back to normal. They are usually prescribed in a form of pills which contains calcium as well, as both of these substances go hand in hand. If you are facing any of these symptoms, get yourself checked by your doctor. As far as vitamin D is concerned, the easiest and most effective method to detect vitamin D levels in your body is to get a blood test. Take the pills as described by your doctor.

I feel such a difference depending on my vitamin D levels and get them tested every year. Also, it is important to remember that vit D is fat soluble so any supplement shouldn't be taken just with water.

Thanks....

very useful, I will add also that blood test should be done every 3 months to check vit. d level, as too low or too much of this vit is not good

I 100% concur and approve this message!

Vitamin d3 in particular has made a major difference in my overall healthy and well being. I consume 10,000-20,000 IUs per day, depending whether or not I know I will be in the sun or not. (Sunlight produces it naturally)---much more if I am sick or feeling as though I may be getting sick.

Thanks for this incredibly important information, especially as the medical community REFUSES to tell people about it, even though the blather on about "wellness" and "preventative medicine."

I live in the PNW and I know during the winter I get vit. d def. thanks for the reminder!

Was really pleased when my doc not only tested my D levels, but then recommended 5000IU daily. Also, it's relatively inexpensive. Hopefully we'll see more awareness, and more docs realizing how important it is.

It is like most of the time western take more dairy products than asian.
