I sense there are a lot of kindred spirits learning and living the mentalist mindset; especially since it seems week after week news of North Korea seeking to nuke the U.S. mainland flares, then quietens. Wise people soon come to the realization that even if they did have fifty years worth of supplies (exaggerated) if a nuke hits anywhere near them, everything will be so radiated that it will all be for naught; unless, of course they're among the few who have deep bunkers, and they themselves survive the blast without a detrimental consequence having survived such. SMH.
But, congrats lindabasilick on your decision. I believe some of the happiest people are those who learn to grow where they're planted. It's interesting you mention Panama. It's supposed to be a big paradise for ex-pats and those with dual citizenship. What's your take on it? Could you see yourself settling there for the long haul? Yes, there's nothing like decluttering the physical and emotional life to feel brand new. Best regards!
Hi, We do have a lot in common.
We try and not make long haul plans. We have a list of places we would consider living in but if our health dictates we'd move back to the US. We've been here for 18 months now and just rented a furnished house for the next year. We're happy here. Yes, lots of expats here, LOTS. But many don't stay for long because they miss their families or the conveniences of the US.
Wow, it's good to hear the other side of the story. We hear about the exit; but not the recidivism back to the great U.S. I understand missing the family. There's something about SKYPE that just lacks connection. I don't think I'd miss the 'luxuries' a lot; but, it's one thing to talk, and a whole other, to live day in and day out without things we take for granted. Thanks for your reply.
