Kellyanne Conway: Media as Misdirection

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Misdirection is one of the few tools of magicians that is widely known to the public. It is a principle of deception also used by scammers, advertisers, military generals, and corporate media.

Ironically, the word "misdirection" is itself misleading. In practice, "It is more effective to guide the audience's focus towards something rather than away from something," according to Jay Sankey, one of the most prolific creators of magical effects alive today.

Sankey uses the term "orchestrating focus" instead of "misdirection." Here are three observations he makes in his book Beyond Secrets:

  1. "The audience is always looking somewhere."
  2. "The performer's [or media] focus, though not absolutely controlling the audience's focus, powerfully guides it."
  3. "The odds of the audience's focus shifting from a sphere of attention are in direct proportion to the length of time nothing of interest has happened in that area. With this in mind, it is often wise to guide the audience to focus on a sphere of attention a moment before you desire them to not be looking there."

Indeed, an important time to pay attention to a news story is the moment it is stopped being reported on. Like how there were hundreds of arrests of human traffickers in L.A. immediately after #Pizzagate lost the limelight.

Orchestrating focus from one "sphere of attention" to the next is one of the more "honest" deceptions. The truth is being told, but much more important truth is kept out of the spotlight.

An excellent example of this in news media is The New York Times article Dissecting the PizzaGate Conspiracy Theories, published Dec. 10, 2016. It is presented with an air of rationality and fairness, while key pieces of the story are blatantly omitted (linguistic deception/logical fallacy is also used). The Podesta emails chosen for critique are probably the three least disturbing. There is no mention of the "art" in his home, or Alefantis and friends' despicable pics of toddlers, along with countless other important pieces of information omitted that are required to make an accurate assessment of whether or not an investigation is warranted.

As long as the spotlight keeps moving, focus is maintained within the acceptable framework.

Last week NASA announced a historic discovery of the TRAPPIST-1 solar system.

TRAPPIST-1, also designated as 2MASS J23062928-0502285,[6] is an ultra-cool dwarf star,[4][7] slightly larger than the planet Jupiter, located 39.5 light-years (12.1 parsecs) from the Sun in the constellation Aquarius.[8][9] As of February 2017, the dwarf star has been shown to host seven terrestrial planets, a larger number than detected in any other planetary system. ~wikipedia

The implications are not small. Imagining what life may be like in a system like TRAPPIST-1 ignites wonder in the heart. How would life evolve on a tidally locked planet, with the boundary between night and day geographically fixed? What would the sky look like filled with neighbouring planets? What colour is the sunset? I'm reminded of the magnificence of everything. Earth is just one of a trillion wonders, spiralling through spacetime.

Meanwhile on Earth, directed by corporate editors and algos, the public sphere of attention focuses on people reacting to Kellyanne Conway kneeling on a couch.

But it's not just any couch . . . yes it is, just a couch, in a room. From a cosmic perspective, she is just a human, exactly the same as you or me. But it would seem that there is a disconnect from the nature of existence. That a simple photo like this would create such a reaction, and reactions to the reaction, is a sign that a great number of people are lost.

And the terrorizing "war on terror" rages on, funded by the same people who fund media to distract us from the absolute insanity that tax-payers are forced to support.

Trump is a literal celebrity CEO of US Inc., an idea promoted since Bernays:

Guthey et al. argue that "...these individuals are not self-made, but rather are created by a process of widespread media exposure to the point that their actions, personalities, and even private lives function symbolically to represent significant dynamics and tensions prevalent in the contemporary business atmosphere."[9] Journalism thereby exaggerates the importance of the CEO and tends to neglect the harder-to-describe broader corporate factors. ~wikipedia

Sound familiar?

The media could place this tidbit in the public "sphere of attention," but they won't. That wouldn't support the matrix of extraction and exploitation of life, in service to "the greater good."

Similarly, it's ok if Ashton Kutcher gains attention, promoting his amazing technology to find adults and children kidnapped for trafficking (kudos Kutcher!), but to suggest that anyone in a powerful political position could be involved in such crimes goes too far. This would threaten the matrix.

It's not a threat though if hundreds are arrested in an apparent crackdown on pedophilia and human trafficking. This is great news but unfortunately will appease the populace, as the ring leaders continue to get off scot-free.

It's not a threat to acknowledge the teetering economy and make all kinds of suggestions for improvement. Just don't look at the history of the privately owned ponzi scheme, deceptively named The Federal Reserve. Spoiler alert: it is not federally owned, and there is no reserve.

Orchestrating focus. That's one of the primary directives of corporate media. However, it doesn't have to be misdirection away from a particular thing.

A more general misdirection is taking place to direct your focus toward examples of the worst human behaviour, and away from the great power of the individual. The game exists to dull the imagination.

And I'm not just talking about articles or cable news, but also Film, TV, and social media platforms that promote fires of rage to go viral, even if it is a minority reaction.

By looking at only mainstream news, we can determine that the history of government and the military is one of deceiving the people for the consolidation and expansion of power often at the expense of the people these institutions are sworn to protect.

If you believe that it is different today, all I can say is, trust me, you're being deceived.

Take a step back and unfocus. Risk being uninformed and you may discover true knowledge.

Earth detects a cosmic heartbeat beyond the limits of our imagination, in an arm of a distant galaxy. It's a binary star system. Two globes of condensed energy whirl around each other at stupendous speeds. They are billions of times more massive than our star Sun, generating vast ripples of disturbance. Their influence expands to every molecule on Earth. Begin to comprehend what actually exists, and the reactions from Kellyanne Conway kneeling on a couch seem a tad insignificant.
