RIP Chester Bennington - Linkin Park's Lead Singer Commits Suicide

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Chester Bennington, Lead Singer of Rock Band Linkin Park, was found dead in his apartment yesterday.

The apparent suicide was a total shock not only to his fans, but even band colleagues and friends.
Police reports that he hanged himself in his home in Palos Verdes, California.

Chester Bennington was only 41 years old.

The official Linkin Park twitter account posted this picture from the band's last public apperance in the UK

His death came on the day of his close friend Chris Cornell's birthday, who himself had committed suicide by hanging in may this year.

According to friends, Cornell's death had affected Bennington a lot - afterwards, he was "never the same".
During the time of his suicide, Bennington's family was out of town and he was home alone.
The band was actually in the middle of a tour and had plans for a photoshoot on that same day - and only 2 hours before the news of his death, Linkin Park's newest music video went live.

This just goes to show that Bennington's suicide was a total surprise to everyone.

Despite his powerful voice and rock songs, Bennington had a sensitive soul and had struggled with addiction all his life, following a troubled childhood of abuse.

In Linkin Park, he finally found the family he never had.

His suicide goes to show that money and fame can't buy happiness - he was under a lot of pressure, especially after the criticism of Linkin Park's latest studio album "One more light" released earlier this year.
Fans and critics were saying that the album was "too soft" and was nothing compared to the rock hits of "Meteora" or "Hybrid theory" from the early 2000's.

Linkin Park is a very special band - I have created choreographies to their songs and enjoyed their different styles a lot.

I still remember exactly how the Hip Hop World was introduced to Linkin Park in 2008 with their cooperation with Jay-Z on "Collision Course".
Especially Numb/Encore became a huge hit and since then, Linkin Park showed that they don't stick to one genre - they create their own style.

Linkin Park's songs have touched millions of people and actually saved countless fans from committing suicide themselves.

A youtube comment from a fan reads: "Your words have saved my life, why couldn't they save yours?"

Reactions

The whole world, millions of fans, and especially fellow musicians and celebrities are in shock about Bennington's sudden death.
Below I want to share some of their reactions and tributes.

His death is not the end - it's only the beginning of something new.

I'm sending prayers and strength to his family and loved ones.

May he be happy and successful in his next life, let's hope that his soul has found peace.

Some celebrities that knew him personally are saying Chester would never commit suicide because he loved his kids too much. They told a source of mine in confidence their name would not be released. However there are multiple celebs that knew him personally questioning if this was suicide or in their own words "a hit".

Some strange stuff there.

I did a video on this but there is more info linked in my steemit post, like the Nikki Sixx tweet.

Upvoted & RESTEEMED!

I gave LP a lot of shit in more recent years. Butt rockers to be brutally honest was what I and others in my circle Labeled them but to Be real Chester and his band really helped develop my love for synthesizers at a young age. Meteora was the first album I ever bought at 12 years old. RIP old friend.

I nearly started crying right now. I have been listening to the entire history of albums of Lincoln Park the entire day. So sad to see that someone would get to a point of suicide.. Really very heart-breaking. I'm listening to them right now.

Thanks for this post @SirWinchester. It's nice to see some other celebrities sending their RIPs. Talk soon :)

RIP Chester :(
Thanks for the post @sirwinchester!

@sirwinchester - Since you had close interaction with Linkin Park through the choreography, I can imagine the void you must be feeling. Your pain is apparent in the blog. You are right - Linkin Park made their own style and Bennington was part of that magic. RIP Chester Bennington. Upvoted

i agree with you

Sad that his talented life was cut short. As we have seen with too many others like Robin Williams, the face of severe depression is rarely an overt sadness but too often a positive, funny, and seemingly "ok" demeanor.

We all need stay tuned into our friends, family, and people we know to try and spot their problems before they reach that point.

When I was 19, first year in college, really mostly happy, and doing well I came close one night to making the attempt.

There is a moment burned into my brain and soul that I can never forget. Someone knocked on the dorm room door and asked me if I had some band aids.

I didn't know her, no classes together. I'd seen her down the hall a few times. She was in the midst of sorority pledging and a list of things to find.. a scavenger hunt. Not what I was into. I was a hippie type, bell bottoms and beads!

Her knock and request for help ( I assumed she had cut herself) was all it took to break the mental prison I had found myself in. Sounds totally nuts, but I could help her, I had band aids!

I gave her a couple of band aids and she explained she was a sorority rush and asked if I was thinking of pledging. I thought to myself she's crazy and the next thought was no, you're the one who is crazy.

She saved my life. I regret that I never took the time to explain it to her and she transferred to another college a month or so later.

So this is my belated way of thanking her!

Debbie of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority! Thank you!
