Thief Stole $100-SBD From Me 11/4/2018
Hello Steemian if you are a follower of mine then you may know that for a long time now I have been trying to get a new computer with my Steem earnings since the PC I use as "the blue screen of death" meaning it will often randomly switch itself off whenever it feels like it.

Anyway I was very delayed from getting a new computer because I attended the Steemfest2 event which left me with nothing and still owning money back.
So since Steemfest2 I have been paying back money and saving some for my new computer which was originally $300 but no longer in sale so now it sells for $527.
Thanks to the wonderful community in Steemit.com you guys have helped me raise $430!
So this month "April" 2018 I finally had the last $100 SBD needed to buy my new computer, and being really excited about finally getting it having my money stolen could of not come at a worse time.
I am sure we all have our different ways of getting our hard earned SBD out turning it into cash and at the moment I have been using localbitcoins.
So in the beginning of April I was transferring the money, I use the "bank transfer method" to do so and so far never had any problems.
So while my coins are protected using an escrow I wait for the guy to confirm he transferred the money so we can release the trade from the escrow hold.
So he sends me this confirming its done

Ok cool I thought...
so I go and release the escrow..
But what I didn't realise is this image was actually only posted on "gyazo" which I learned later is an image sharing website.
Obviously at the time I had no idea plus it was Easter and I knew some bank transfers often would get delayed around that time.
On the following day I checked and saw no monies confirmed in my bank still...
So I asked around on whether or not this was normal?
I mostly got told to keep calm because the banks wont progress anything for another day or 2.
Ok I thought... "I will wait till maximum Thursday 12 o clock" its what made the most sense if there was any delays from the bank, by then if it was a bank delay they should be up to date by that time.
I still checked daily but honestly felt right away on the first day something had gone wrong.
Of course on Thursday the money never showed to I sent the guy a message.

The thief came online twice since I sent him the message which he continued to ignore.
With no other options I decided to contact support, I didn't expect anything from them except its your fault or you messed up but I got told it might be worth a go.

I checked to see the next day and pretty much got the message I expected.

I had heard in the forum that sometimes they give you refunds but I honestly didn't expect it nor do I know if its even true but I feel atleast I know I tried all my options.
But sometime later....
Regardless of this I was extremely happy to receive this forwarded message from the support team.

Good from what I understand they done this because they also tried phoning the guy but he was using no longer a valid number so the support team got suspicious and hes account got a strike for giving out a phoney number during validation.
But best of all the team also have disabled hes account until he pays me back.
Do I expect him to pay me back?
Nope, that's how these guys are... they take whatever they can and leave a mess behind but atleast I got hes account messed up and he cant do this to anybody else.....well, unfortunately I noticed on the thief's feedback page that another victim complaining describing the same problem a few days after what happened to mine.

Now before you comment and tell me its my fault and how I was stupid I know that already.. the point of me creating this post is actually more of a warning message then a rant.
Its a message to others who maybe also be new to the world of crypto and for you to be aware of the potential dangers and what to look out for.
Dont! be fooled by this type of a scam.
At the end of the day I am trying not to be down about this and instead seeing this as a "learning" from my mistakes.
I hope this helps someone from not being scammed even if its only one person it will be totally worth it as these losses hit you hard.

I'm so sad reading this my friend. I wouldn't say much that might worsen your mood. I completely understand your mood because I've experience sometime worse than yours. I lost the keys to my first account way back in October that has over 37 Steem and 25 SBD. There's hope my friend, be strong.

In the USA you can get a brand new Chromebook for about $200.
With the rise in the price of steem it looks like you should be able to make at least $100 sbd a month now if not $200 so that is good but you definitely have to be careful. I wish it was easier to buy and sell cryptos.

Yea that is what was bothering me on the day, sorry I didn't explain earlier Rich but I wanted to get all the facts right and guess I had some hope the thief would of returned the money, not only that but I thought sharing it on Steemit could help others from doing the same and looking at the comments I feel it was of some help to others. I lost a total of 100 SBD it may not sound like much but its alot for me still and no I dont trade LTC I do have a place for bitcoins also Rich I cant take any donations that would leave you without a roof over your head.
100 SBD is a lot for me too! I'd like to see you get a new computer, I'm trying to figure out a way to help!
Yeah none of us are whales or orcas unfortunately and I thank you Rich but I could not take your money if it means not having your rent paid, I am nearly half way to recovering it I just hope the price stays up this high and I might just be able to get it, thanks your votes are appreciated.

That really sucks, sorry this happened to you @simonjay maybe while you are recouping the computer will go back on sale. On something better will go on sale. I got hacked a few weeks back. they got about $30 SBD and $5 STEEM thankfully I nearly live on the site, and found out quickly that something was wrong. So I recovered my account before they could start the spam fest and ruin it also. Had they waited a day or two before they did it they could have gotten a couple of hundred. It was my fault I downloaded an app I thought was d.tube it wasn't, d.tube doesn't have an app yet.
Thank you @tecnosgirl yes that would indeed be great I will be keeping my eye out for any deals with the specs needed, haha so you are like me then always on Steemit, and see there are benefits to doing it! I am so glad to hear that the thieves didn't take all you hard earned gains, some may think its not alot but dam it means alot to us when we worked hard to get it.
At the time with what everything was trading for it was about $100 USD. The sad part about it is if they would have just asked and gave me some BS story I would have given it to them. I give away most of my sbd I earn I do invest some of it and occassionally use it to buy myself something. But for the most part I use it to give back.
Thats is great I believe Steemit is very much about giving which is why I been keeping my SP so I can give back to those who need it or supprt me @tecnosgirl but I feel people still haven't figure that out.
There are plenty of resources for everyone on the planet. It is sad there are people who are greedy who want it all for themselves and they go about it illegally stealing instead of putting effort in. Sad thing is if they took that effort and applied it to doing right they would help make the world a better place. They also would likely earn more money than what they get by stealing.

Yeah I believe learning is the best way forward instead of thinking how silly one was to fall for something like that, i guess everything needs to be triple checked argh! And no problem glad people find it useful and hopefully not make the same mistakes, because some people out there in the market just dont play fairly, and yes indeed the money will be recovered eventually and luckily I still got SP to support me and get it back so lets keep up our sanity @cjao20

That really sucks on what happened to you I know you was really looking forward to getting that PC also. Its a shame they can't do anything more on getting your money back but at least he got his account banned. Thanks for letting people know about this.
Yes it really does suck it, was the last amount I needed man for getting it, I think I have played all my options and it was great to see hes account get suspended and caught on the dodgy number. No problem I hope it helps and hopefully he will return the money lets us see @hotmangoes

Ok @hotmangoes so update, it seems as I suspected the guy instead of getting hes account back as decided to run with what he could and not pay the money I checked on the dates and the thief is not logging in, looks like I wont be getting it back darn it!
that really sucks man I guess he got what he want from as much people as he can and make off with it.
Ah @hotmangoes that's the type of person he was he just ran with it and if he treats the rest of hes life like that I should hope to see Karma hitting the guy, I managed to get over it but obviously it makes you a little nervous if thief's try it again.
I hope it will catch up with him soon, I get what you mean it will be hard to know what ones are genuine and what ones are not I hope this will never happen to you again.
Thanks alot for that @hotmangoes , me too its devastating I mean imagine you done a month's work at your job and they said oops we cant every pay you for that time, I would be pissed! I dont know why but something tells me with people like that karma always catches up to them at some point dont you think?

Big bummer. But thanks for letting us know what happened. I know little about opening a crypto account , knowing something like this can happen makes it worse.
Yup very annoying but guess I will just have to wait and work a little more for it, and no problem its good to put this information out as there doesn't seem to be enough when it comes to the smaller problems and yes its very off putting infact many things are in this crypto world like even buying bitcoins can be a mission for some people @manorvillemike

next time try coinbase. i have made several withdrawals from them, and they are brilliant.
Yeah he might do but I doubt it I know what these guys are like they just run with it @koskl oh gosh I just could never get past the coinbase verification picture phase it just doesn't work for me its very annoying.
