Blue Apron Day One Review

in #life7 years ago (edited)

So you've heard of Blue Apron but are on the fence about trying it. Well, you've come to the right place.

Maybe you haven't heard of Blue Apron and are curious. You have also come to the right place.

What is Blue Apron?
Blue Apron is a food service that delivers farm fresh ingredients to your door step on a weekly basis. There are other food services similar to BA but this is the one I will be reviewing for the next three days.

Which leads me to my next point, before paying for the weekly deliveries Blue Apron gives you the opportunity to try three meals for free (a week's worth). This is what I signed up for and if my husband and I are totally hooked we will probably start ordering weekly.

But how much will it cost every week?
I'm not going to sugar coat it. For most people with food preparation and cooking experience it is still cheaper to go to the grocery store and buy your own stuff. Keep in mind this is a food delivery service so you're paying for the convenience amoung other things.

Here are a few screen shots from the Blue Apron website about pricing:

As you can see they really are decently priced once it broken down by meal. Particularly if you are the type of person who enjoys eating out alot.

Are the recipes healthy?
Some of the recipes look healthier than others in terms of carbohydrates and sodium etc. But all recipes will be portioned to be around 500-800 calories, which is often the perfect amount for dinner.

I cannot express to you how fresh and wonderful the ingredients are. Everything in my Blue Apron box is fresh and very aesthetically pleasing.

Dinner Day One
My husband and I chose to make the chilli steak and parmesan potatoes with spinach for our first meal.

In every box you get three (or two depending on your plan) recipe cards. The front tells you what the recipe is and what ingredients to use with a pretty picture of the finished product. The back gives you wonderful step-by-step directions with check boxes.

I followed every step and loved how perfectly planned out it was. Every step was seem less and kept the cooking process running smoothly.

Here is a picture of my finished product!

This was one of the best steak dinners my husband and I have eaten in a very long time. The ingredients were top notch and everything was cooked to perfection thanks to the recipe card (and myself).

Tomorrow I will post about Day Two with Blue Apron. I have high hopes that it will be as delicious as day one!

Have you tried Blue Apron or a similar food service? Let me know your experience!

Hello, simkat! We met at the coffee shop the other day. I took your advice and made an account! The community is definitely neat, but I haven't had your kind of success. I think I will have to do another introduceyourself at some point.

Hi there!! So glad to see you are on here! The market has been in this awful slump and everyone is just bugging out right now. Try and stick with it if you can, the market will bounce back and we will all start making more etc.... I've watched my wallet decrease a lot recently. My crypto currency wiz of a husband tells me not to get discouraged. I'll go check out your blog now and follow you! Few tips: Everytime you post, make sure you upvote your own posts and replies. Also, if you read a post you really like and you think it'll make money resteem it and youll get curation rewards. Make sure you redeem your Steem power in your wallet too. :)

Okay, thanks. My plan is to keep trying. It seems that some people make an introduction post that totally takes off and they gain lots of followers from that. Lots of others make posts but they just kind of get swept down the feed without getting noticed.

Very true! My friends introduce yourself didn't do very well but then her next post made her a couple hundred dollars! It's pretty crazy. @greenie
