3-D Printed Home Offers Housing Answer For 1 Billion Who Need Shelter @senseicat

in #life6 years ago

I absolutely fell in love with the tiny house movement thinking that it is a great way to save money on housing costs while still being able to enjoy life to the fullest.

I think that we can all agree that food, water, shelter are essential human needs. Despite this, there are 1.2 billion people in the world without adequate shelter.

SXSW in Austin, Texas has coming up with a low-cost 3D single-story home solution in an effort to combat this problem. The prototype home is 650 square feet, made of cement, can be printed in 12-24 hours.

Next year, a community of 100 homes will be created for folks in El Salvador. The key is a partnership with New Story nonprofit that is geared towards solving international housing answers for underserved communities.

This specialized Vulcan printer, ICON can print the entire home for $10,000, with the goal of reducing costs to $4,000 per home. It is actually capable of printing an 800 square foot home. Interesting enough, tiny homes top out at 400 square feet and often New York apartment average size is around 800 square feet.

3D-printed houses will eventually be built in the United States and the objective is to create the least amount of waste as well as reducing labor costs.

I love this post. As an architect I believe in the wise use of space and if this way we help more people and families to obtain their homes and cover their basic needs, then "Wonderful". Let's do it!

I really appreciate your comments and agree that it is wise to use space and resources intelligently and responsibly.

With blockchain everyone seems to have forgotten about 3d printing, it really has a tremendous future.

Yes, there has been tremendous growth in tech and luckily Blockchain seems to be the cornerstone of many existing and new ideas.

The house is mini, but looks very luxurious, and the price is also very luxurious look
