My First Ever Net Fishing with the Local Fishermen! Part 02

in #life7 years ago

Yesterday I made a resume of my day out fishing with some local fishermen, you can find the post here! It was a very lovely day spent on the boat in the ocean but I was really very tired when I reached home!

We all love eating fish so much, fish is actually one of my favorite especially when it is freshly caught!
But do we know how hard it is to be a fisherman?
Do we know the hardship these craftsmen face before you get these fish on the market stalls?

Follow me and let me show you some of the preparations that need to be done before venturing in the blue water!

As I told you, yesterday I was invited by some friends to join them and have this unique fishing experience! So I went to the place which is named Tamarin Village which is about 30 minutes drive from my house!

I reached Tamarin Village at around 9am! The weather was quite good and looks like summer is just next door! It is always warm near the beaches in Mauritius!

When I reached, the fishermen were already at work! I will show you below what they were doing , well they do this everyday before going to sea!

But first, they have to put their boat back to sea! It is not the most luxurious boat, but a simple wooden one which give them their living for years now!

There was 10 fishermen in all who would go to fish together yesterday! In fact net fishing is only opened/allowed for couple of months in Mauritius and the last day allowed for this year is the 15th October!

So during these months, all the fishermen work together by sharing boats and nets! It is more profitable for them.

Some of them start loading the boat with the fishing nets in good conditions...

But as they fish everyday, the fishing nets usually gets damaged with corals!
Each nets need to be checked before loading on the boat!

This is my fisherman friend, Joel! One of the most experienced among all the others!
He is repairing the damaged nets! I just stared at him and watched him for long minutes repairing these nets with such an amazing skill!
So amazing!

This is the nylon used to repair the nets!

Oh wait...It is not only Joel who is repairing damaged nets... Another experienced fisherman joined him!

Then finally everyone joins up, together with some folks of the village!
They all work together and in such a fun atmosphere!

A fishing net can be as long as 200 meters or even more!
Look at all the nets in the back...Yes they all will be used for the fishing trip of the day!

This photo is for you to get an idea of how long a net can be!!!

All these fishing nets are loaded in 2 boats, half in each!

They are all tied together to form 2 long fishing nets! In the sea, before launching the nets, they are both tied up to make one long fishing net!

Only when all these preparations are done...then the fishermen can get on board the 2 boats that will go for fishing!
It was already 11.30am! And they started preparing the nets as from 7.30am!!!

Once all loaded up, I took my bag which contained food and drink for the journey! The amazing adventure was just about to start!
But you need to wait for the next part to know how it was on the boat...

As I told you above, the work of a fisherman is really a hard one! You already saw how much preps are needed before venturing in sea!
And I did not talked about loading the motors on the boats, food that they also need to bring for the long day, buying diesel for the motors, protective dress they need to have, checking the weather forecast and the list goes on...

So here ends part 2 of my first ever net fishing with the local fishermen!

I hope you like it!

Watch out for the next part to come out soon!

Thank you!

Hey @abh12345! I'm so happy to see you here mate! Oh yes it was really a very nice adventure but so tiring!

A pleasure, will try to drop in more often 😁

Beautiful to witness the way these fisherman work together in this way, each relying on each other's nets to join forces. It's a microcosm of the way life can be, I'm thinking. Looking forward to more of your ocean fishing journey.

Absolutely my friend! I was so impressed seeing all the fishermen working together and in a great fun way! A fisherman life is really a hard one, but still they enjoy the job!

Wow, this is really interesting @progressivechef. I agree, that's a lot of hard work these fisherman go through. Their dedication and perseverance is definitely admirable. Plus, I love how they work as a team.

Will wait for the next part of your story ...

So good to see all the fisherman working together and helping each other out!

Repairing those nets is a pain in the butt, very tedious work!
