New Drain Field

in #life6 years ago

I hope this is the end of the saga about our septic system.

We had a new drain field installed today. Thankfully, the septic tank was still good. Replacing the tank would have doubled the cost. We got a new distribution box and four new drain lines.

The last ditch had to be six feet deep to get the right grade. They also had to curve it to follow the contour of our yard.

The bottom of each ditch has 13' of chopped tires (a gravel substitute) with a drain pipe in the center.

They had to dig up so much soil that it is piled up in little mountains covering a 90'x50' section of our yard.

It took three men a full day to finish the job. As soon as the health inspector gives his blessing they can fill the last ditch.

Cheers, Professor Bromide

Dang brother, that's a big job, glad your tank was in good shape. Hope everything has been going well otherwise. You gotta come join me on the podcast soon to catch up. Keep the beer and honey flowing!

I hope to have some free Saturdays in about a month. That would be a good time to come on the show. We should be seeing hints of spring and the bees will be making their plans.

How long drainage lines have you laid? I haven't followed your previous posts, so I don't know what project you're working on. Can you answer what the ultimate goal of all the construction is? Are you outfitting a country home with a water system, or is it something simpler? I want to run a drainage line to a faraway barn. I built it for my cows on the farm. Over time, I realized that carrying buckets of water for them to drink four times a day was too problematic. I want a water faucet there, not a hose from my house. But I'm afraid the drain will get clogged, and I'll become a regular customer of draintoronto.ca. I used to call them because plastic bags got into my drain many times. But cows can make more debris.
