The Spices (1st Part)

in #life7 years ago

Hi Steemians!

Today we are going to talk about a general interested topic The Spices.

Topic forgotten for who try to introduce by itself in the culinary adventure..

Have you ever try to do a recipe and that has been awesome, the taste and the colour incredible and later you ty to do it in some other place (e.g. in your friends' house) and it don't taste equal?

All this sittuation is due to The Spices, the philosofal stone in the Cooking, without them...

Well We won't lose more time and let's start.

The spices are flavorings of vegetal origin that are used to add to flavour on food, these ones are knowleged like condiments in to many places.

The most of them are coming from Asia.

We have Salty condiments (salt, ajinomoto, lemon salt, and so on).

Sweet condiments (sugar, sugar loaf, molasses, honey, and so on).

Acidic condiments (citrics, vinegars, wines, and so on).

Greasy condiments (Oils, butter, and so on).

In retrospect is important to do a mention, in the past existed the famous "Spices Route".

It was a commercial route an its origin is for the eleventh century approximately. It started with Crusaders' return from Jerusalem to Europe. At the end of their venture, they realized that were going to miss the spices so enjoyed in Orient.

At the beginning the route was formed by land, Merchants performanced this route toward the asian continent where they could buy spices as pepper, nutmeg, and other ones, but land transportation was starting to lose popularity due to the increase in the thefts of the caravans and little vegetation available to feed beasts in charged of its transportation, this started the consolidation of maritime route.

Among spices and herbs we can mention:

Roots: Turmeric, ginger, liquorice, and so on

Haulms and leafs: Basil, coriander, tarragon, laurel, marjoram, rosemary, and so on.

Buds and flowers: saffron, caper, garlic, and so on.

Seeds and fruits: star anise, cardamom, cumin, chilis, and so on.

The spices can be divided too in:

Sweet spices: vanilla, cinnamon, anise, nutmeg, and so on.

Salty spices: Basil, muztard, cardamom, ginger, pepper, and so on.

It's important mark out the term "spices" was used with other purpose in the past, it was used to refer to the desserts group dished to enjoy the tasting of different wines.

I say good bye with great affection of all you for the moment, and will come back with 2nd Part where we are going to talk about of use of some bouquets and preparations of some curries.

Leave me your positive and negative comments, this will be very important because we can impprove and offer you any topic in better way.
