I share with you this beautiful story, which I had on facebook, and they asked me to share it as an example that we should help the most needy, with all the love of the world and without showing pity, all those who carry out an activity of social work, we must not put or buts, or obstacles to achieve the goal that is to help others.

Here is this beautiful story that fills me with hopes that all is not lost.

The 26-year-old mother stood by the bedside of her 6-year-old son, who was dying of leukemia. Although her heart was filled with sadness and anguish, she also had a strong sense of determination. Like any other mother, she wanted her son to grow up and realize his dreams. Now, that would not be possible anymore, because of the terminal leukemia. But even so, she still wanted that dream of her son to become a reality.

She took her son's hand and asked:

  • Billy, did you ever think about what you would like to be when you grow up?

Did you dream already what you would like to do with your life?

  • Mom, I always wanted to be a fireman, the mother smiled and said:

  • Let's see if we can transform that dream into reality.

Later that day, she went to the local fire department in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, where she met a big-hearted firefighter named Bob. She explained her son's situation, her last wish, and asked if it would be possible to take a ride on the fire truck with her six-year-old son, around the block.

Firefighter Bob said:

  • Look, WE CAN DO MORE THAN THAT! If you have your son ready, at seven o'clock in the morning, next Wednesday, we will make him an honorary fireman for the whole day. He can come to the barracks, eat with us, go out to answer the fire calls! And if you give us your measurements, we will get you a real uniform, with a helmet, with the emblem of our battalion, a layer similar to the one we wear and also boots. They are all made right here in the city and we will get them quickly. Three days later, firefighter Bob looked for the boy, dressed him in his fireman's uniform and escorted him from the hospital bed to the fire truck. Billy sat in the back of the truck, and they took him to the headquarters.

The boy was in heaven. There were three calls that day, in the city of Phoenix, and Billy accompanied everyone. On each call, he went in different vehicles: in the tank truck, Vans for doctors and even in the special car of the head of the fire department. It was also filmed by the local television program. He had his dream come true. All the love and attention they gave him touched him so deeply that Billy lived three months longer than all the doctors had predicted.

One night, all his vital functions began to fall dramatically and the nurse-chief, who believed in the concept that no one should die alone, started calling the whole family from the hospital. Then, she remembered the day that Billy had passed as a firefighter, and called the boss, asking if it would be possible to send some firefighter to the hospital, at that difficult time, to keep the child.

The fire chief answered:

WE CAN DO MORE THAN THAT! We will be there in five minutes. And do me a favor. When you hear the sirens and see the lights of our cars, notify the security system that it is not a fire. It is only the fire department that comes to visit, once again, one of its most distinguished members. And could you open the window of your room? Thank you!

Five minutes later, a van and a truck with telescopic ladder arrived at the hospital, extended the stairs to the floor where the child was and 16 firefighters went up to his room. With the mother's permission, they embraced him, took him in their arms and said how much they loved him.

With a final sigh, Billy looked at the boss and asked:

  • Boss, am I really a fireman?

  • Billy, you're one of the best! said the boss.

With these words, Billy smiled and closed his eyes for the last time.

" I hope it has been to your liking "
