Arsenic and Old Lace
Have you seen this classic movie? It's a dark comedy with a serious subject.
I hadn't seen it until this morning. Well, not this version of Arsenic and Old Lace. I had seen the 1969 version with Helen Hayes and Lillian Gish, I think.
But each first Saturday of the month, our local movie theater (yes, there's just one) hosts a showing of an old movie. This month it was Arsenic and Old Lace.
The Frank Capra Version
This movie was the one directed by Frank Capra starring Cary Grant and Priscilla Lane. It was made in 1944 and has held up very well.
They really don't make movies like they used to!
The Homicidal Aunts

In this movie, Cary Grant plays Mortimer Brewster. His crazy (literally crazy) aunts are shown here with Cary Grant in a scene in their Brooklyn house.
Aunts Abby and Martha Brewster are played very convincingly by Josephine Hull and Jean Adair.
All's Well That Ends Well
Despite blunder after blunder, this movie ends well. It was comedic (if not a tad ridiculous in more than one place) and well done.
Have you seen this version of Arsenic and Old Lace? I recommend it. It's two hours well spent!
