STORIES FOR THE SOUL
JAPANESE BAMBOO
It is not necessary to be a farmer to know that a good harvest requires good seed, good fertilizer and irrigation, but it is also obvious that those who cultivate the land do not stop impatiently in front of the sown seed and shout with all their strength: "Grow up, damn it, there is something very curious that happens with bamboo that makes it unfit for impatience:
You sow the seed, you fertilize it, and you water it constantly.
During the first few months, nothing appreciable happens. Nothing really happens with the seed for the first seven years, so much so that an inexperienced grower would be convinced that he had bought infertile seeds.
However, during the seventh year, in a period of only six weeks the bamboo plant grows
more than 30 meters!
It took only six weeks to grow up?
No, it actually took seven years and six weeks to develop.
During the first seven years of apparent inactivity, this bamboo was generating a complex root system that would allow it to sustain the growth it would have after seven years.
However, in everyday life, many people try to find quick solutions, quick wins, without understanding that success is simply the result of internal growth and that it takes time.
Perhaps out of the same impatience, many of those who aspire to short-term results suddenly leave just as they are about to reach the goal.
It is difficult to convince the impatient that only those who fight perseveringly and wait for the right moment can achieve success.
It is also necessary to understand that on many occasions we will be faced with situations in which we believe that nothing is happening.
And this can be extremely frustrating.
In those moments (which we all have), remember the maturation cycle of Japanese bamboo, and accept that as long as we do not give up our arms - or give up because we do not "see" the result we expect - if something is happening inside us: we are growing, maturing.
Those who do not give up gradually and imperceptibly create the habits and the mettle that will allow them to sustain success when it finally materializes.
Success is nothing more than a process that takes time and dedication.
A process that requires learning new habits and forcing us to discard others.
A process that requires change, action and formidable patience.
Time... How much it costs us to wait, how little we exercise patience in this troubled world in which we live...
We rush our children in their growth, we rush the taxi driver.... we do things in a hurry ourselves, we don't know why...
We lose faith when the results do not come in the time we expected, we abandon our dreams, we generate pathologies that come from anxiety, from stress...
What's the point?
I propose you try to regain perseverance, hope, acceptance.
If you don't get what you want, don't despair....
maybe you're just putting down roots.....
