Being STRICT isn't being RUDE.

Most of the time, we tend to misjudge something's probably because we were not favoured or we just doesn't feel it's right.

Growing up in a fenced apartment helped me see things the way they are meant to be irrespective of how unfavorable they seem to look.

My dad was disciplined. He was strict. While growing up and even up till now, our gates gets shut once its 8:pm. This literally means that no one is expected to be out of the compound by then. I wasn't happy with this rule. I saw it as wickedness. How could our gate be locked by such an early hour when most of my peers are outside having fun.

While attending a seminar in 2015, the speaker while speaking, said, "The world mistake being orderly or disciplined to being rude and wicked". On remembering my growing up and how our gates are always shut earlier than I imagined, I discovered i was guilty as well. I was one of the persons who saw discipline to be rude.

Years later, I missed out on a test in school that was announced weeks ago due to illness, on getting to meet the lecturer to enable me write the test, he asked

"If you were to be the campaign director to a politician and on the election day, you missed out due to illness, will you go back to INEC (Nigerian electoral body) to request for a chance to vote?"

I said no. And that was how I missed the test.

My emotions tried judging it wrongly. To appear like he was wicked. But I recalled, "being disciplined isn't being rude".

I figured out that I could have informed the man about my health status on or before the day of the test. To enable him know my reasons before hand.

A times, the things we call evil or wicked or rude are not so. We let our feelings define it so because we were not favoured. If there where no orderliness and some level of discipline, then nothing in the world would be existing.

If rules are meant to be broken, then why set the rules at first. Imagine a world of no rule, no constitution of some sort. I doubt if there would be anyone left on earth.

This is a call to sharpen us and widen our thoughts. Let's unlearn some stuff and let my blog disrupt our minds to stop seeing things from 'our personalized views' but rather the way they are.

Being strict isn't being rude...

Being disciplines isn't being wicked...

Let's not just term it so, because someone made a rule and was bold enough to effect it.

It is a conventional belief or dare I say the belief of majority. Another example are students who label their teachers as mean, when genuinely they mean well.
Posts like yours are what is needed to enlighten them, just as I have been enlightened.

Thanks. Glad you see my valid point.

I like the definition of discipline here....thats just it.....welldone .....a lot of people don't know this. The earlier young people accept that discipline is key, the better...

Excellent point, onyemacourage! Discipline has turned into such a negative word, when in fact it can be extremely positive. Thanks for the reminder.

Am so grateful I could do so.

Thanks for your compliment

You're very welcome!
