7 day beer challenge day #1
doomsdaychassis is doing a 7 day beer challenge, where you try a new beer every day for seven days. There are a few rules that will be at the bottom of this post, but one of the rules is to tag someone else to do the challenge. They tagged me in 7 day beer challenge day #3, so here we go!
Despite the fact that since I've started keeping track of the beers I drink using Untappd and currently have 3,803 unique beers checked in (as of this writing, not Friday night... Tomorrow's post will make your liver hurt), it's not too hard to find a beer that I've never had. There are just so many great breweries out there making such great beer. So I may make this challenge more difficult for myself by not buying any new beers.
Luckily I already have a ton of beer on hand:
So Friday night, after drinking a few beers ([https://untappd.com/b/stone-brewing-stone-ipa/821](Stone IPA) mostly) at the local ice rink watching my offspring play a championship hockey game, we came home to watch the Dallas Stars game (we may have a hockey addiction). I popped a bottle from a local brewery 20 minutes north of me called 903 Brewers. Apparently, it's a pretty rare beer. 903 doesn't list it on their website, beer advocate has no reviews of it, and I'm the fifth person to check it in to Untapped. Without being able to find much information about it, it's a sweet stout aged in Bordeaux wine barrels. I was very hesitant to even buy this one. Most of the time putting beer into a red wine barrel makes it sour, which in my opinion ruins perfectly good beer, as opposed to putting it in a whiskey or rum barrel which makes okay beers good and good beers great.
There was a touch of the sourness I was expecting but instead of being that dry puckering feeling I get from most sour beers that I just hate, it was a subtle sourness like you might get from a tart blueberry. It nicely complemented the sweetness of the stout and the vanilla notes from the oak.
I gave it a four out of five stars on Untapped, and really wish I had bought more of this beer for aging purposes to see how the sour notes would change over time.
Since this is a contest, there must be rules.
- You have to try a new beer every day, for 7 days.
- The beer must be something you have never tasted before.
- You must put a photo of the beer and write a few words about it.
- Nominate someone every day.
- If you are a social outcast with no friends to invite you just join the fun. You have every excuse to drink!
- Use the tag "#sevendaybeerchallenge" as one of your five tags.
- Tag @trumpman to give him recognition for his contest.
I'm tagging Chris Tankerley. He's got too much time to play video games and should spend that time being more productive by drinking and reviewing beers.
3803 beers? And that's after you started using that app? You are my new role model sir.
Most people just call me an alcoholic!
They are just jealous!
Not everyone can afford it)))
Day two is up! You might be able to figure out why it took me a while to post.
i knew you wouldn't disappoint but DAMN 3803 beers...........
