There are two schools of thought about old-age; some view it as a favor from God as they see it as a reward for living a good life, others might see it as punishment for a life unduly spent in younger years; that's if anyone made it past 70 years!

Old age is not debatable, the prettiest must become wrinkled and pale; the strongest will become agile and frail, its just a matter of time in years. Whether decades upon decades or century for some, it is one of the three fundamental phases in life with the early life/age, middle age, and the golden old age. If you are under 35 years, that is still part of early life, the middle age for humans spans from the late 30s to late 50/early 60 years while the old age sets in from 70 years upwards.

Getting old simply means to decline in youthful years and attaining a stage of elderliness. It is therefore characterized by psychological and physical effect, the things you could do before might delude you, the rate at which you remember somethings might decline.

THE GOOD SIDE OF OLD AGE AND THE FEARSOME SIDE; LONLINESS, POVERTY AND POOR HEALTH

Experience in old age varies, however; while some oldies have lived a comfortable life, some had lived a hard life and with others, it is a deserted life. A life lived in solitary and sometimes in poverty, this is not a strange phenomenon as there is a different background to the over 7.6 Billion World inhabitant.

Old age remains a natural inevitable process in humans, It is filled with a variety of diseases, weakness, wrinkles, loneliness, and financial incapacity for the uneducated ones who had no savings and with no one to take care of them. This is a stage in life that permit a high potency of vulnerability to diseases; the diseases fighting organs are now weak and getting old, just like a newborn; old age is a very sensitive period of intensive care and servitude.

This could be a stage for loneliness, as this is the period where most old folks retire from their various professions/work - employment, some become too weak to go on vacations. This period gradually brings most old people to a place where they have nowhere to go, millions of them are used to their workaholic life and this may eventually result in loneliness. Most older people find life difficult and lonely at this stage because of their strong habit and adaptability to their work nature. It is a more severe case for single spouses, maybe death came for the husband or the wife; or some that never got married, having no one to talk to and cater for them is depressing. Thankfully most developed countries have homes for the aged, but for old folks in developing regions of the world, it is a sorry case.

However, not all old people withdraw totally from work, some still remain active at this stage helping in foster homes and other senior citizen homes. It is crucial to pay a great deal of attention to the nature of old age because the determiner here is base on the effects of the early life and middle age activities, what a particular old folk has done (lavish spenders, junkies, alcoholic etc) in those periods that might have effects to their present life in the early stages of their lives.
